A runner has died after collapsing at the finish line of a popular half marathon in London, event organizers confirmed this week.
Kory Russell was participating in the Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday, a scenic race that winds through central London’s most iconic green spaces. He collapsed as he crossed the finish line in Hyde Park.
Medical staff on site responded immediately, providing advanced care before Kory was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Tragically, he later passed away.
In a statement released Tuesday, race organizers shared their grief:
“With deep sadness, we confirm the death of a participant in the 2025 Royal Parks Half Marathon. Everyone involved in the organization would like to express sincere condolences to Kory’s family and friends.”
The cause of death has not yet been determined and will be established following a post-mortem examination. Out of respect for the family’s wishes, no further details are being shared at this time.
Kory’s passing casts a somber tone over an event known for its beauty and community spirit. Since launching in 2008, the Royal Parks Half Marathon has taken runners through four of London’s eight Royal Parks, raising funds to support the care and preservation of over 5,000 acres of public green space. These spaces include Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, and St. James’s Park — all beloved landmarks in the heart of the city.
