“He’s swinging a club while America burns,” says one federal worker amid growing outrage over the shutdown.

October 4, 2025 — Washington, D.C.

President Donald Trump spent his Saturday morning on the golf course while more than 750,000 federal employees faced another day without a paycheck.

At around 10 a.m., Trump’s motorcade rolled out of the White House gates en route to Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia — his go-to retreat whenever Washington falls into chaos. This time, the chaos is self-inflicted: a grinding government shutdown that’s left key agencies paralyzed and federal workers furious.

A Shutdown and a Blame Game

Negotiations collapsed Wednesday after both parties failed to agree on a funding bill. The deadlock centers on Trump’s demands to slash environmental and healthcare programs, while Democrats refused to back what they called “a reckless dismantling of government.”

The result? Hundreds of thousands furloughed. Millions of Americans uncertain about basic services. And a president who, by all accounts, doesn’t seem too concerned.

“He’s swinging a club while America burns,” said Jessica Pruitt, a furloughed Environmental Protection Agency analyst from Maryland. “We’re worried about rent. He’s worried about his backswing.”

Propaganda in the Shutdown

Several federal websites — including the Departments of Interior, Energy, and Labor — now feature banners blaming “Senate Democrats” for the shutdown. Even some government employees’ auto-reply emails reportedly echo the same line. Ethics experts have warned that this could violate the Hatch Act, which bars political activity on government time.

“It’s propaganda masquerading as a public service notice,” said Walter Shaub, former director of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics. “We’ve never seen an administration so willing to weaponize the government’s digital infrastructure for partisan messaging.”

The White House defended the messaging blitz. Press Secretary Abigail Jackson accused Democrats of “holding America hostage” to fund healthcare for “illegal migrants” — a claim that fact-checkers immediately debunked, noting that undocumented immigrants remain ineligible for federal healthcare programs.

In an especially bizarre twist, Trump’s campaign posted an AI-generated video online depicting House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries in a sombrero, set to mariachi music, warning of a “Democrat invasion.” The video was removed by X (formerly Twitter) for “misleading synthetic media.”

Golf as a Presidential Reflex

This is far from the first time Trump has golfed through a national emergency.

In 2017, he was photographed grinning on the green as North Korea tested ballistic missiles. That same year, he retreated to Bedminster while Puerto Rico struggled to recover from Hurricane Maria.

When the nation reeled from the Parkland school shooting in 2018, Trump spent the weekend golfing in Florida. And in August 2019, as communities in El Paso and Dayton mourned mass shooting victims, he hosted a wedding at his New Jersey course.

Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, Trump was a frequent sight at Mar-a-Lago and Sterling — one aide at the time reportedly joked that “the fairway is his Situation Room.”

A Pattern of Escapism

Since reclaiming the presidency in January 2025, Trump’s schedule hasn’t changed much. He hit the links as markets tumbled in April following his “Liberation Day” tariffs, and again in July while parts of central Texas were underwater after devastating floods.

According to the watchdog site DidTrumpGolfToday.com, the president has golfed 64 of his first 258 days in office — at a taxpayer cost of nearly $90 million.

“It’s tone-deaf,” said political analyst Maya Renteria of Georgetown University. “Trump built his image on being a fighter for the forgotten American. But when crises hit, he retreats to his empire. Golf, for him, isn’t leisure — it’s denial.”

Public Frustration Rising

Across the country, frustration is mounting. In Washington, unpaid park rangers and TSA officers have begun small-scale demonstrations. “We’re not political pawns,” one sign read outside Reagan National Airport.

Democrats in Congress have vowed to hold hearings on what they call “the misuse of federal communications systems” and the administration’s “pattern of deliberate obstruction.”

“Americans deserve a leader who fights for their paychecks — not one who hides behind a golf cart,” said Senator Elizabeth Warren.

For now, the greens at Trump National remain pristine. The same can’t be said for the country he’s supposed to be running.

    1. Trump might as well golf while the Democrats realize they aren’t going to force us to pay for better healthcare for ILLEGALS (that shouldn’t even be here) than what real Americans get!

  1. Excellent! A solid day’s work would exhaust every federal worker, other than Postal employees & the military, I’ve ever seen.

  2. Let me see, Sleepy Joe spent half of his time in office in Delaware at the beach. But you’ll blame the hardest working president for taking an afternoon off to play golf on his own course. The man has so many irons in the fire at the same time working for our country. The DEM’s won’t vote for a clean CR, so they are the ones closing down the GOV’T. If you don’t get a check in the mail, then blame the Democrat Communist Party.

  3. If only
750,000 are out of work I’d hardly call this a govt shut down! We’ve closed non/essential services! What does that tell you??? We don’t need those agencies or people they are non- essential!!!

    This is typical democrat nonsense

  4. You know the good people of the USA, have had enough with the lying Democratic socialist/communist party.
All they do, is cheat and lie. And we all know it. The Republicans always try to do things the right way, So it’s just gonna take time to be able to hold the crooked liberal left Democrats accountable.
What the hell else, is President Trump supposed to do? He has done so much good for our country so far, and continues to do so. He deserves some R&R occasionally. The Evil Dems would begrudge him meals every day if they could. It’s that ridiculous.
With all the vacation days that sleepy Joe took, during his time in office, and all the time he spent sleeping on the beach, and working out ways to screw the country, I wouldn’t be throwing stones, just in case one comes back at you hitting your own glass house.
Just please stop all of your negativity on Trump. You all are wrong and you know it.
It would behoove you, to start believing in the good man upstairs. If you did, you wouldn’t be doing all of the evil things you’re doing. That’s how we know your wrong!!!

  5. Well, just what do you expect him to do? The stinking left is partying until next week because they don’t realize that we know they are responsible for this mess.

    1. Do you understand what it is about. If you are not privileged to have the best Medical Coverage, then you wouldn’t blame the Democrats.
Do you have any Empathy for your fellow Citizens?
