Iran’s leaders are threatening open war with the United States, warning that even a single Israeli strike could ignite a regional firestorm.

Major General Mohsen Rezaei, the former commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, told state television on Sunday that Tehran would not hesitate to strike American targets if Israel launched an attack.

“The moment Israel starts a war, we will also enter a war with the United States,” Rezaei declared, underscoring Iran’s willingness to expand the conflict beyond its borders.

The warning comes as U.S. pressure on Tehran intensifies under President Donald Trump, who has made crippling Iran’s nuclear ambitions a central plank of his foreign policy. Earlier this year, U.S. forces carried out direct strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, signaling Washington’s readiness to act.

For Israel, the stakes are no less dire. The country went on high alert this weekend after the United Nations reinstated sanctions on Iran through the so-called “snapback” mechanism, restoring bans on arms sales, uranium enrichment, and missile development. Israeli officials fear that Tehran, cornered and defiant, could accelerate its nuclear program.

“Iran is still a power,” one senior Israeli official warned. “The risks of miscalculation are higher than ever.”

President Trump has repeatedly vowed that Iran will “never have a nuclear weapon” during his presidency. His administration pushed hard for the U.N. sanctions, framing them as a critical step in cutting off Tehran’s ability to fund its military ambitions.

Trump’s allies argue that strength is the only language Iran understands. Critics warn the strategy risks pushing the Middle East into another cycle of war.

“The world has seen what happens when America looks weak,” one senior White House official told reporters. “President Trump is making sure that never happens again.”

Rezaei made clear that Iran has no intention of backing down. He blasted the idea of talks that would give Israel breathing room.

“Negotiations aimed at giving Israel time or strengthening it are unacceptable,” he said. “If we enter negotiations, military force must in no way be used against Iran. Otherwise, we will retaliate—not only against Israel, but also against American targets in the region.”

The warning echoes Iran’s long-standing strategy of linking its survival to deterrence, making clear that U.S. troops, bases, and allies across the Middle East are all within reach of its missiles.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu doubled down on the need for pressure.

“We have to keep up the diplomatic and economic pressure on Iran to make it clear that we will not tolerate a resumption of their efforts to build nuclear bombs to destroy my country and yours,” Netanyahu said, pointedly including the United States in Iran’s crosshairs.

Diplomats fear that even a minor misstep—a misinterpreted military exercise, a border clash, or a stray missile—could quickly spiral into a confrontation dragging in multiple nations.

The Middle East has been here before. Just three months ago, a 12-day conflict erupted after a flare-up between Israel and Iranian-backed forces. Energy markets convulsed, global shipping was disrupted, and oil prices spiked. Analysts warn that a wider conflict, one that directly involves Washington, would have catastrophic effects on global stability.

For now, the world waits. Will back-channel diplomacy defuse the crisis, or will Iran’s threat become the spark that draws America into yet another Middle Eastern war?

  1. Is Iran asking for the USA to obliterate Tehran off the face of the earth? Sounds like it.
    Foolish thinking and threats.

  2. Everybody needs to back down and have an cream ! If this continues where it is headed we are going to have a conflagration like the world has never seen.Life on earth will probably not survive.

  3. Iran has threatened The United States Of America with “WAR” for over forty years. These threats are nothing new.
President Trump can’t immediately bomb and erase Iran from existance then begin building casino’s, parking lots, hotels and motels. It’s a “conflict of interest”. But, as soon as Congress gets their act together and pass some new laws, eliminating that “Conflict Of Interest”, well? Game On!!!!!
