In a moment as surreal as it was politically loaded, President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk were spotted shaking hands at the memorial service for slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Arizona.

The Sunday gathering at State Farm Arena drew an estimated 60,000 mourners, including Vice President J.D. Vance and a long list of right-wing figures. Trump, 79, delivered a fiery eulogy, while Kirk’s widow Erika spoke through tears about forgiveness, invoking biblical scripture.

But it was the side drama that captured the nation’s attention: Trump and Musk, who had been at each other’s throats for months, were seen chatting quietly — their first reunion since their spectacular falling-out earlier this year.

What the Lip Reader Saw

British lip-reading expert Nicola Hickling analyzed the footage of the exchange. According to her, Trump greeted Musk with a perfunctory “How are you doing?” before pivoting quickly: “So Elon, I’ve heard you wanted to chat.”

Musk, expressionless, gave what appeared to be a shrug. Trump pressed on, allegedly saying, “Let’s try and work out how to get back on track.” Hickling claims the conversation ended with Trump clasping Musk’s hand and muttering: “I’ve missed you.”

It was a strangely intimate moment between two men who had very publicly torched their relationship.

Musk’s Cryptic Post

Hours later, Musk added fuel to the speculation with a post on X: “Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.”

The timing was impossible to ignore. Erika Kirk had used almost identical words when she forgave the 22-year-old accused of murdering her husband. Musk’s echo of her speech immediately raised questions: Was he signaling reconciliation with Trump, or simply cloaking himself in the language of grace?

The Rift That Shook the Right

Just months ago, Musk accused Trump of being mentioned in the long-awaited Epstein files and blasted the administration for a “cover-up.” He later deleted the posts, but the damage was done.

Trump, furious, mocked Musk’s dependence on government subsidies and threatened to unleash his controversial Department of Government Efficiency — known by the Orwellian acronym “DOGE” — to investigate Tesla and SpaceX funding. At one point, Trump even floated the possibility of deporting Musk, who was born in South Africa. “Wouldn’t that be terrible?” Trump quipped to reporters. “He gets a lot of subsidies.”

For Democrats and many independents, the episode exposed the bizarre contradictions of the Trump era: a president who rails against “global elites” while courting their money, then publicly humiliates them when they step out of line.

What This Reunion Means

Whether Sunday’s handshake marks a real thaw or just political theater remains unclear. Trump is staring down mounting criticism over his sweeping “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” — a sprawling tax and budget plan slammed by economists as a giveaway to the ultra-rich. Musk’s companies, many of which rely heavily on federal contracts and subsidies, stand to benefit if he can get back into Trump’s good graces.

But Democrats argue the spectacle proves how fragile — and transactional — Trump’s alliances really are.

“Trump’s whole presidency is about revenge and reconciliation depending on what benefits him in the moment,” said Arizona State University political scientist Dr. Laura Martinez. “Today he says ‘I’ve missed you.’ Tomorrow he’s threatening deportation. That volatility is the point.”

For now, the image of Trump and Musk smiling side by side at a memorial for one of the conservative movement’s most polarizing figures may become one of the defining snapshots of 2025 politics — a reminder that under Trump, even grief is political theater.

  1. D. Trump and Musk were never that far apart… Musk just had to go off and put some more effort back into his own affairs… The LSM loves to spend a week on the one same murder as it distracts from the fact that the Democrat junkies still MURDER 75 PEOPLE DAILY! Kirk was one of them that day. What about the other victims and their families / friends? I’m disappointed that neither Party still seems to be bothered by 75 daily murders! Also bothered by Good Officer Derek Chauvin still in prison and forgotten! Officer Byrd still out of prison…
