In a chilling twist to the double homicide that claimed the lives of American Idol music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband Thomas Deluca, LAPD investigators now say the suspected killer may have entered the couple’s heavily fortified Encino mansion without any signs of forced entry—raising new questions about how the crime unfolded.
Detectives believe the murders may have taken place on July 10, days before the victims were discovered during a welfare check. According to LAPD Lieutenant Guy Golan, police had received two calls that same day reporting a possible burglary suspect on the property. Still, no break-in was confirmed at the time.
“We’ve seen no overt signs of forced entry—no broken locks, no smashed windows,” Golan said during a recent press conference. “The home is extremely secure, with eight-foot walls and metal spikes. The gates were closed. So how the suspect got in remains a major piece of the puzzle.”
The suspect, 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian, was arrested without incident at his residence in Van Nuys. Though he hasn’t given any statements, police say surveillance footage and expedited forensic analysis linked him to the crime. His motive is still unknown, and police say he has no known connection to the victims.
The couple’s home was also reportedly the subject of a previous attempted break-in, according to their pool cleaner, which may play a role in the ongoing investigation.
Adding to the mystery is the fact that nothing in the house appeared ransacked. Still, investigators aren’t ruling out the possibility that something was taken. “It’s possible he did take something, but at this time we’re unable to ascertain that,” Golan said.
Neighbors of Boodarian have since come forward with troubling accounts of his past behavior, including violent outbursts, erratic actions, and possible mental health issues. One neighbor said Boodarian once tried to stab his mother. Others described him flashing knives at security cameras, stalking local teens, and being repeatedly visited by police in recent months.
Despite the unsettling nature of the crime, Golan assured the public that Boodarian is now in custody. “The one silver lining here is that we were able to get him off the streets quickly,” he said. “But a case like this—random, brutal, and seemingly without warning—shakes a community to its core.”
Robin Kaye, 70, had worked on American Idol for over 15 seasons and also contributed to Lip Sync Battle and other major TV productions. She was a multiple-time winner of the Guild of Music Supervisors Award. Her husband, Thomas Deluca, was also 70.
The LAPD is still combing through additional surveillance footage and seeking witness accounts. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact investigators.
