Detroit, MI — A McDonald’s in suburban Detroit turned into a scene of horror after a 26-year-old employee brutally stabbed her manager to death—just hours after unleashing a chilling Instagram tirade accusing the victim of bullying, racism, and “spreading negative energy.”
Afeni Muhammad, an aspiring rapper who goes by Risen Phoenix online, is now behind bars on a staggering $25 million bond. She’s charged with first-degree murder after allegedly plunging a kitchen knife into her manager, 30-year-old Jennifer “Jamma” Harris, more than 15 times in front of shocked coworkers and customers on Thursday.
The deadly attack came one day after Muhammad posted a furious video online, accusing Harris of repeatedly sending her home early and calling her “a bully.”
“I got sent home early yesterday. I got sent home early today by the same person,” Muhammad ranted in an Instagram reel. “She’s a bully. This sh*t isn’t funny… She got no respect and it’s gotta stop.”
Muhammad’s anger didn’t stop there. In the video, she accused her boss of “playing racial sht” and “gossiping about people,” warning ominously, “That sht’s gonna have to stop.”
According to police, Harris had sent Muhammad home yet again after another dispute on Thursday. That’s when Muhammad allegedly snapped.
“She said, ‘I’ll be back,’” Eastpointe Police confirmed. Moments later, she returned wearing a mask—and holding a kitchen knife.
Witnesses say Muhammad stormed into the fast-food restaurant and launched the savage attack. A drive-thru customer was so horrified by the violence that he fired a warning shot into the air and managed to detain Muhammad before police arrived.
Harris, a beloved manager who had worked at the McDonald’s for 15 years, was also a single mother of six children. Her death has shattered a family and left a gaping hole in her community.
“This isn’t just a statistic,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido. “This is a family shattered, a future forever altered.”
In court Friday, Muhammad’s defense attorney painted a picture of a troubled young woman trying to rebuild her life. He said she was a high school graduate studying physical therapy online and hinted that the full story hasn’t yet come to light.
“There are disturbing facts in this matter,” the attorney told the court. “But other facts have not been brought out yet.”
Even more disturbing? Prosecutors say Muhammad had a prior conviction for stabbing someone in a different state.
McDonald’s franchise owner issued a statement calling the attack “tragic” and pledged full cooperation with authorities: “Violence of any kind is unacceptable in my restaurants… We are deeply saddened and our hearts go out to the victim’s family.”
The restaurant remains closed.
Muhammad is expected back in court later this month.
