President Donald Trump is facing growing dissent from within his own movement as frustration mounts over his latest foreign policy gamble: a series of airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites that triggered immediate retaliation and sent shockwaves through both Congress and the conservative grassroots.

Once a rock-solid foundation of his political power, Trump’s MAGA base now appears shakier than ever. A new YouGov/Economist poll conducted June 20–23 shows that while 83% of Trump 2024 voters still approve of the president, 14% now disapprove—a notable drop that shaves 11 points off his net approval rating among loyalists in just one month. The dip, coming in the wake of escalating U.S.-Iran tensions, is fueling talk of a brewing identity crisis inside the GOP.

Political observers say Trump’s hard pivot from “America First” isolationism to Middle East escalation has alienated some of his most committed followers—many of whom backed him precisely because he promised to end foreign entanglements, not start new ones.

“Trump’s decision to bomb Iran rattled the very core of the MAGA movement,” said Dr. Thomas Gift, a U.S. politics scholar at University College London. “For years, he championed staying out of endless wars. Now, he’s risking exactly that.”

The backlash was swift. Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massie blasted Trump’s unilateral strike as unconstitutional. “This is not our war,” Massie wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Congress must decide such matters. That’s the law.”

Even far-right allies showed signs of unease. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a usually unwavering Trump defender, posted a somber message calling for prayers for U.S. troops. Moments earlier, she had warned, “Every time America is on the verge of greatness, we get dragged into another war.”

Steve Bannon, Trump’s former chief strategist and MAGA media mogul, openly criticized the president for “thanking Bibi Netanyahu,” accusing Trump of outsourcing U.S. intelligence to a foreign power.

“This wasn’t the talk MAGA wanted to hear,” Bannon said on War Room. “It felt like a flashback to the neocon days.”

Trump’s move was also met with hesitation by his own Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, a known skeptic of U.S. military adventurism. Though she downplayed reports of a rift, sources say the decision to override intelligence assessments on Iran’s nuclear ambitions has caused internal friction.

Polls show the American public is just as uneasy. A majority across several surveys opposed the strikes outright. A Reuters/Ipsos poll taken after the attack found Trump’s overall approval among Republicans dropped from 90% to 84%. A Washington Post poll showed just 25% of Americans supported bombing Iran, while 45% were against it—and a stunning 82% said they feared the U.S. was on the brink of another full-blown war.

“People didn’t vote for Trump to start another war,” said Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA. “He was the first president in decades who didn’t do that.”

Still, in a sign of the complicated political terrain, some prominent MAGA voices tried to spin the strikes as proof of Trump’s strength. Vice President JD Vance praised U.S. pilots for “dropping 30,000-pound bombs on a target the size of a washing machine.” Conservative strategist Aaron Evans went even further, claiming Trump “did exactly what he promised—he stopped Iran without starting a war.”

But not everyone’s buying it. Political communication expert Peter Loge, a former Obama advisor, told Newsweek the public sees through the noise.

“People want to afford groceries, not follow Trump into another foreign crisis,” Loge said. “This is a classic case of a president chasing headlines while voters are chasing peace of mind.”

Even among Trump’s own voters, support for global intervention is waning. The YouGov poll found only 47% of his 2024 supporters believe the U.S. should play an active role in world affairs. Thirty-seven percent disagreed, and 19% said they weren’t sure.

Democratic strategists see a potential opening.

“This is Trump’s Iraq moment,” said Democratic pollster Lina Rodriguez. “He misread the room. Americans are tired of war, tired of chaos, and tired of politicians who put personal politics over national priorities.”

Perhaps the biggest danger for Trump isn’t the criticism from Democrats or moderates—but from inside the MAGA machine itself.

“This is about trust,” said Bannon. “And if the movement starts losing trust in Trump, the whole thing falls apart.”

As the dust settles in Tehran and political fallout gathers in Washington, one thing is clear: Trump’s decision to go to the brink has fractured the very base he once claimed would follow him “to the end.” And in an election year, that could be his riskiest gamble yet.

    1. Yes, more obvious lies as WOKE NextGen joins the evil Democrats’ feeble attempts at splitting MAGA…
      MAGA LIKES TRUMP !!!

  1. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THAT STUPID STATEMENT, THIS CRAP MUST HAVE BEEN WRITTEN BY ANOTHER BRAIN DEAD, LYING, CHEATING LIBERAL.

  2. Liberals would love it if Trump lost support but have any of you ever even met or talked to a MAGA supporter??

Common sense, peace through strength. US dropped bombs, no Americans died or were injured, the largest state sponsor of terrorism and a rogue nation has had their nuclear program set back, a ceasefire is now in place, Iran back at the negotiating table, US strength and demonstration of that allowed Rubio to convince China to insist Iran leave the straight if Hormuz open or face total destruction of ALL of Irans wells and refineries, and NATO stepping up their own spending on defense and you think this disappoints MAGA???? You guys would love that but truly don’t understand how things actually work in the real world and how much progress Trump is making everywhere!!! This was far better than Biden’s horrendous withdrawal from Afghanistan which you guys hardly covered even though Americans died!

Wake up, use common sense!! We know you hate Trump but results are results!

    1. PLEASE, PLEASE PEOPLE where is the a Respect,Love, the Peace everyone wanted . Now it’s pointing the finger, out downs anything this President is found to straighten out our MESS the PRECIOUS PRESIDENT LEFT US. LIKE ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN ONE DAY– TO BrING OUR COUNTRY BACK TO WELL TAKE A HARD LONG TIME. LETS GIVE OUR LEADER TIME AND SUPPORT . AMEN 🙏

  3. Are Trump voters losing faith with Trump? HELL NO! However, once again we are disgusted by Democrats who care more about the citizens of other countries than they are their own.
Glad the Supreme Court ruled all these low-level Democrat-appointed judges can no longer hold up the good works of this American hero. Illegal immigration is literally killing us. They cost our nation 150 billion per year. 1/3 of wildlife in the USA is becoming endangered due to housing being built and leveling forests and farmland, and the left doesn’t care because they think they will have more future voters. Yet Democrats brag they care more about the environment.

    1. Will be lots of housing and jobs once the 20 million ILLEGALS are booted back OUT !!! And much LESS CRIME!

  4. It\’s because RINOs have infiltrated into the GOP. We\’re NOT losing faith in President Trump.   We don\’t trust you RINOs who have found job security working for President Trump.

    M.

  5. Angelo you are 100%correct. This site is nothing more than a liberal democrat backer and cares less for the truth than most. We patriot MAGA supporters are still supporters because Trump did the right thing destroying their nuke sites. Save our country and in so doing show respect to those who gave their lives for it and those who served it. God bless DT and America.

  6. What democrats won’t do to attack our President of the people. I am sorry but even democrats I know are saying President Trump has them rooting for him. So anyone who says this is a democrat period. President Trump made promises and is keeping them. He is doing what is right for America and Americans. Haters are really only brainwashed and paid democrats. MAGA has grown since he took office January 20, 2025.
