It started with a photo op. It ended with what many online are calling a royal roast—caught on camera.

President Donald Trump was in the Netherlands this week for the NATO summit, but the biggest headline wasn’t about military strategy—it was about the face Queen Máxima of the Netherlands made during a seemingly routine photo shoot.

The moment, now exploding across social media, shows Queen Máxima appearing to mock Trump’s signature mouth gestures—right in front of him.

Trump Gets the Royal Treatment—Then the Royal Shade?

In an unusual show of hospitality, Dutch King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima hosted the former president at their official residence, Huis ten Bosch Palace, rather than having him stay in a nearby luxury hotel. The three shared breakfast before stepping out for photos.

Footage from the palace shows Trump standing between the royal couple, flashing his signature grin and giving a thumbs-up. “That’s the picture we want,” he says confidently to photographers.

As the king asks Trump how his stay was, Trump replies, “It was great. Thank you all very much.”

Then comes the moment that set the internet ablaze: Queen Máxima turns away from Trump and appears to contort her mouth, mimicking the exact lip-pursing and tongue movement Trump just made. The president seems oblivious.

Social Media Explodes: ‘She Trolled Him!’

The clip was posted by political account Polling USA on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: “Queen Maxima mimicking Trump’s mouth movements really got me.” It has since racked up millions of views.

“You just know Trump’s going to post about this on Truth Social,” one user joked.

“The Queen mocking that taco clown to his face is GOLDEN,” another added on Reddit.

YouTube commenters in both English and Dutch pointed out the tongue flick and pursed lips as “classic Trump,” calling Máxima’s timing “brutal” and “hilarious.”

Critics Cry Foul—Defenders Say It’s a Misread

Not everyone’s convinced the queen was throwing shade. Some defended Máxima, arguing her facial movements were part of a multilingual reflex.

“She’s fluent in English, Dutch, and Spanish,” one Dutch commentator wrote. “She tends to mirror expressions, especially in diplomatic settings.”

Another theory floated online is that she was mouthing the Dutch word for “goed” (good) in response to Trump’s thanks.

Still, others pointed out that Máxima’s background in international finance and diplomacy makes it unlikely she would accidentally deliver such an expressive—and potentially offensive—gesture without meaning to.

Who Is Queen Máxima?

Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti, 54, was born in Argentina and worked in investment banking before marrying then-Prince Willem-Alexander in 2002. The couple has three daughters and became king and queen in 2013 when Queen Beatrix abdicated the throne.

Known for her charisma and outspokenness, Máxima has long been popular in both Dutch and international media. She’s also served as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance.

Trump’s NATO Visit Ends Quietly—Sort Of

President Trump left the Netherlands Wednesday after a tense NATO summit, where he once again pushed for increased defense spending by European allies. But in the end, it wasn’t policy or diplomacy that grabbed headlines—it was a viral moment and a possible jab from a queen.

The Dutch Royal House and the White House did not respond to media requests for comment.

But the internet has already made up its mind. As one TikTok user quipped, “She didn’t just sip the tea—she served it.”
