A Marine Corps veteran from Louisiana is demanding answers after federal immigration agents detained his wife using what he calls “a deliberate ploy”—leaving their infant daughter without her mother’s care.

Adrian Clouatre, 26, served five years in the Marines and says he never imagined the country he fought for would tear his young family apart. “I still can’t look my son in the eye and explain why his mother isn’t home,” he told reporters Monday, his voice breaking. “And our baby—she’s only three months old. She needs her mom.”

A Family’s American Dream Interrupted

Clouatre met Paola, 25, a Mexican national, in 2023. The two married soon after and settled in Baton Rouge, hoping for a quiet life. “We did everything by the book,” Adrian said. “We started her green card application. We paid the fees. We followed the rules.”

But beneath the surface, a years-old deportation order loomed. According to Clouatre, Paola entered the U.S. as a child with her mother, fleeing violence in Mexico and seeking asylum. In 2018, after her mother missed a critical immigration hearing, the government moved to deport both of them.

After the couple married in 2024, Paola tried to resolve her legal status. “She never hid from the process,” Clouatre insists. “We thought being married to a U.S. citizen meant she could fix her paperwork, like we’ve seen so many families do.”

A Shocking Turn at USCIS

The family’s ordeal took a devastating turn in late May. At what should have been a routine immigration appointment, Clouatre says officials quietly separated the couple, asking them to wait in the lobby. Minutes later, multiple officers—some in tactical gear—arrived and arrested Paola on the spot. “They didn’t even let her hold our daughter one last time,” he said. “She had to give me her wedding ring before they cuffed her.”

Their two-year-old son Noah watched in confusion as his mother was taken away. Their infant daughter Lyn, still breastfeeding, was suddenly without her primary caregiver.

Policy Pressure and Human Toll

Immigration enforcement has sharply escalated in recent months, as President Donald Trump’s administration pushes for 3,000 arrests a day nationwide—a move critics say is tearing apart law-abiding families. Under the direction of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, ICE raids and detention rates have surged.

“America is supposed to be about family values, but what happened to us feels like a betrayal,” said Clouatre. “We’re not criminals. Paola’s only crime is loving me and wanting a better life for our kids.”

He now drives eight hours round-trip from Baton Rouge to Monroe every week so his children can visit their mother in an ICE detention center.

A Mother’s Absence, A Nation’s Conscience

Pediatricians warn that sudden separation can disrupt critical infant development. “Babies need bonding—especially during breastfeeding months,” Dr. Aisha Morales, a New Orleans pediatrician, told our reporter. “Taking a newborn’s mother away is traumatic for everyone involved.”

Asked for comment, a DHS spokesperson stood firm: “This individual is in the country illegally. The law is clear, and we will enforce it.” The agency says Paola’s emergency petition is under review, but offered no timeline for a decision.

The administration has recently offered financial incentives for undocumented immigrants to “self-deport,” but critics argue that the policy ignores the deep roots many families have established in the U.S.

“This Isn’t the America I Served For”

Clouatre says he’s never been active in politics, but the experience has shaken his faith in the system. “I wore the uniform, I served my country,” he said. “All I want is for my kids to have their mom home, and for our family to be treated with decency.”

As the debate over immigration rages in Washington, one Louisiana family waits—torn apart, uncertain, and desperate for justice.

  1. This is awful so cruel to a family that has not done a crime so unchristian for a country that calls it self Christian

    1. Don’t get involved with liars, ILLEGALS, criminals. murderers! Expect trouble if you do…
We don’t know how this will turn out…

  2. He served our country, like a true patriot, gets married to a girl, and tries to get everything straightened out, about her status, And u go and trap them, by splitting them up, with the kids watching , and take the mom away, as a criminal illegal, that is sick, and heartbreaking, to hear. As a veteran, that changes my view, as I am trying, to get a person out of a war zone. I don’t want to see her die, but getting her out of Ukraine, is not easy or safe, and I have been working on it for over a year. These wars are bullshit, being invaded is bullshit, people can’t live together is bullshit, grow the hell up, seek the Lord, He is even pissed at the lunacy that is going on, destroying our country. People hating each other, over the vile hate of one DJT, and party , who has saved this country. U dummycraps are finished for good, u dirty, lying, cheating, stealing, killing, backstabbing, pathetic, evil, American hating, no-good, rotten dirty bastards, will never be trusted by the people again, u covered up years of corruption, a dead man walking,, and just screwed over the american people for 40 + years, never again. Karma has arrived.

    1. Realize religions fuel all the unneeded wars! Then you will understand why all this evil is happening! Where it really stems from. NOT from DJT!

  3. Well this sounds terrible but I’m sure we don’t know all the facts. Why isn’t this all over the news like the ms13 gangster the Maryland man? Where are the democrats screaming!! Hmm

First thing I’d want to know is do they have a valid verifiable marriage license? If so I’d gladly assist them to straighten this out. If they don’t and she has been skating the system as her mother did this is harder to fix!!

  4. I’m not sure this is what the administration had in mind .sounds like typical bureau over reach that we see so often.Maybe the top brass will step in and do what’s right.
