A quiet Sunday morning turned to chaos and carnage at CrossPointe Church in Wayne, Michigan, when an armed man crashed his Ford F-150 through the sanctuary and opened fire on a congregation filled with children and families.
Attack Unfolds on Livestream
The horrifying assault happened around 11:15 a.m., just as the church’s service was underway. Chilling footage from the church’s livestream—now in the hands of law enforcement—captures the instant panic: stunned worshippers clutching their children, a voice shouting “Get down!” and frantic families racing for exits as gunshots echoed through the room.
“It was the scariest thing I’ve ever been involved in,” said Wendy Bodin, a church member who hid in a bathroom as bullets tore through the building. “We didn’t know what was going on, but we knew it was bad.”
Heroic Action Stops the Shooter
Police have not named the shooter, a 31-year-old white male, as they continue to hunt for answers. Deputy Chief Finley Carter III of the Michigan Police Department confirmed the suspect was shot dead inside the church by a quick-thinking security guard—after a congregant ran him over with a vehicle, giving the guard a critical window to end the threat.
“He was run over by one of our members who saw this happening when he was coming into church,” said Senior Pastor Bobby Kelly Jr. “That gave our security team the chance they needed.”
At least one victim, a man, was shot in the leg during the chaos, but is expected to recover. Miraculously, no other serious injuries have been reported—despite the church being packed with around 150 people, many of them children attending vacation Bible school.
A Congregation Prepared for the Worst
Pastor Kelly revealed that CrossPointe Church had taken security seriously for years, hiring guards in response to the growing wave of violence targeting houses of worship across the country. “We felt like sitting ducks without protection,” Kelly told The Detroit News. He credits that foresight for preventing a massacre.
“It’s hard to even process,” he admitted. “But our congregation is strong. We’re coming together and supporting each other, especially the kids who saw things no child ever should.”
Community Shaken, Questions Remain
Law enforcement, including the FBI, flooded the scene and urged residents to steer clear of the area as the investigation continues. The shooter’s motive remains unknown. “Multiple agencies are working around the clock to understand why this happened,” Deputy Director of the FBI Dan Bongino posted on X.
For survivors, the terror of the attack is still sinking in. “Fortunately, everyone made it out safely except for the one man who got shot—and thank God he’s okay,” Bodin said, her voice shaking.
CrossPointe’s leadership is now planning meetings to help their community heal and find answers. “We’re just thankful that it wasn’t worse,” Bodin added. “And that God was watching over us.”
As authorities piece together what led to this shocking attack, one thing is clear: the nightmare at CrossPointe Church could have been far more deadly if not for the courage and quick action of churchgoers and security staff.

Not a joking matter… some kind of junkie attempting mass murder…
Never go anywhere where there are most than two people (including myself), UNARMED!! Way too many people NOT institutionalized!
brown people being shot AT? not DOING the shooting? OMG? yea, yall this is the norm.
I love what Wendy Bodin said. She was everyone was Okay , even the Gunman isn’t injured.
The junkie attempted murderer was run over (somehow?) and shot dead…
This story does’nt seem consistent over time . Who drove what into who allowing the security guard to stop the gunman by shooting him?
Not a “gunman”, but some type of ADDICT…
I wouldn’t be surprised if, during the investigation, they discover that this attack was politically based, even if not the main factor, it would be a strong factor to it (for example, unchecked mental health issue plus political based reasons).
