Tensions inside the White House briefing room boiled over Wednesday as Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt abruptly ended a fiery press conference following a barrage of questions about free speech, protests, and President Trump’s increasingly authoritarian rhetoric.

The confrontation unfolded just days before a controversial military parade is set to roll through Washington, D.C., on Trump’s 79th birthday—a display the president has framed as a celebration of “American strength.” But with thousands of peaceful counter-protests expected, the focus has shifted from patriotism to presidential power grabs.

“Will peaceful protesters be allowed to gather without fear?” asked NOTUS reporter Jasmine Wright, referencing Trump’s ominous warning that demonstrators could be met with “very big force.”

Leavitt snapped. “Of course the president supports peaceful protests. What a stupid question.”

The room fell into stunned silence—then erupted with follow-ups.

David Sanger of The New York Times pressed further: “Is protecting the First Amendment a priority for this president, or is cracking down on dissent more important?”

Leavitt bristled. “The president supports the First Amendment. But what we’ve seen in Los Angeles hasn’t been peaceful,” she said, referring to the city’s ongoing demonstrations against Trump’s sweeping immigration raids.

When Sanger pointed out that nearly all the L.A. protests were nonviolent and that only 400 arrests had been made out of thousands on the streets, Leavitt cut him off—then stormed out of the briefing room.

The entire exchange lasted just 26 minutes.

Military Parade or Show of Force?

Saturday’s military parade, which includes tanks, fighter jets, and an estimated 8,000 troops, is drawing condemnation from civil rights groups who say the president is using the military to intimidate citizens and crush dissent.

Trump has insisted it’s “a celebration of America,” but his rhetoric tells a different story.

“If there’s any protester that wants to come out, they will be met with very big force,” Trump warned Tuesday from the Oval Office. “These are people who hate our country.”

The statement came just hours after he insisted he hadn’t heard about any protests—only to threaten violent crackdowns moments later.

“He can’t have it both ways,” said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on X. “You don’t get to wrap yourself in the Constitution one day and trample on it the next.”

Free Speech Under Fire

Though Trump has long claimed to be a “defender of the First Amendment,” his record is increasingly difficult to square with that image. On the very first day of his second term, he signed an executive order proclaiming the right to “speak freely in the public square without government interference.”

But critics say that promise rings hollow in the face of his recent threats.

“What we’re witnessing is a steady march away from democratic norms,” said Vanita Gupta, president of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. “Peaceful protest is not violence. Dissent is not treason. And using the military to silence Americans is not patriotism.”

Troops in the Streets, Questions in the Air

Nearly 5,000 National Guard members and Marines are now deployed in and around Los Angeles, as part of Trump’s “Operation Law and Border.” The administration claims the move is about immigration enforcement—but protest organizers say it’s about intimidation.

“This isn’t about national security,” said activist Maya Hernandez of LA for Justice. “It’s about silencing anyone who disagrees.”

As the nation braces for a weekend of dueling spectacles—military parades on one hand, mass protests on the other—the White House’s silence on constitutional rights is growing louder by the day.

And if today’s press briefing is any sign, that silence is starting to crack.

Democrats are Party of immoral liars, weirdos, censors, perverts, ILLEGALS, junkies, CRIME WAVE, criminals, murderers, and Hitlerites! Why would anyone sane want to be part of that?

  2. A lot of people and especially the media need to learn the difference between peaceful protest and riots. Marching down the sidewalk carrying signs and chanting is a peaceful protest. Burning cars and buildings, looting and attacking law enforcement is a riot.

  3. Where was the explosive meltdown ? She was cool calm and collected with perfect explanations to all questions. Typical moronic liberal yellow journalism.

  4. Wow can you guys at nextgen make up stories! You should know there’s been many parades in Washington involving the military! Did you know June 14th that you people keep saying is just a parade about Trump is actually an anniversary parade for the parade we had when the war was won in Iraq? So hardly a big deal! National guard and marines called in to protect private property from rioters in LA is hardly new! It happened in the 60s during the Watts riots and in the 90s during the Rodney King riots! Hardly calling in the national guard to protect private property fro rioters and looters is not trampling on the first amendment!!! Get a grip!! Know your facts and your history before you write!

Maybe you guys should be novelists? Your better suited to fiction than news!

  5. Ms. Karolyn’s is such a breathe of fresh air as press secretary. Very professional when answering questions to the media. She know her facts. Such a huge difference between the other 2 press secretaries in the last admin,

  6. Another freakin lie. Do you stupid actually read what you claim to be talking about. Watch the entire press conference. Leavitt does her job, answers questions and leaves. She didn’t rush off, she answered the question without further comment. You are evil.
