Sources say President feels “duped” by his own Supreme Court picks as MAGA fury zeroes in on Barrett’s centrist votes

President Donald Trump is reportedly fuming in private over what he sees as repeated betrayals from the very justices he handpicked to cement a conservative Supreme Court — and none more so than Justice Amy Coney Barrett.

According to multiple insiders familiar with Trump’s private tirades, the president now views Barrett as a “complete disappointment,” frequently describing her to aides as “weak” and “ungrateful.” One source bluntly summarized Trump’s mood: “He feels conned.”

Barrett’s recent decision to recuse herself from a hot-button religious charter school case in Oklahoma appears to have been the final straw. Trump reportedly exploded after learning of the move, especially since the case involved an initiative the administration had championed during his first term. “She’s folding to the left,” one close Trump ally told us. “And Trump is livid.”

From Conservative Hero to MAGA Pariah

Appointed in a political sprint just weeks before the 2020 election, Barrett was once hailed by the religious right as a constitutional savior — a devout Catholic mother of seven who could tilt the balance of the Court for decades.

But in the eyes of Trumpworld, that promise has gone sour.

Tensions had already been rising. Earlier this year, Barrett sided with Chief Justice John Roberts and the liberal wing of the court to allow Trump’s criminal sentencing in the New York hush money case to proceed — a case that ended with a conviction on 34 felony counts for falsifying business records related to payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

“She stabbed him in the back,” said one source close to the campaign.

And that wasn’t the first time Barrett drew MAGA fire. In March, she voted to reject Trump’s push to block nearly $2 billion in foreign aid. The decision triggered an on-air meltdown from former Senate aide Mike Davis on Steve Bannon’s podcast: “She’s a rattled law professor with her head up her ass.”

Right-Wing Influencers Turn On Her

The backlash hasn’t stayed behind closed doors.

“Amy Coney Barrett was a DEI hire,” far-right activist Laura Loomer posted in March, sharing a family photo of Barrett with her seven children — including two adopted from Haiti.

Online attacks have only intensified, with some Trump loyalists now accusing her of “judicial cowardice” and even calling for her impeachment — an extreme demand with no legal basis but one that reflects just how far Barrett has fallen with Trump’s base.

Trump’s Court Picks: Regret Sets In

The anger doesn’t stop with Barrett. Sources say Trump has also soured on his other Supreme Court appointments, Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh. “They all looked the part,” one Trump insider said, “but they’re not fighting for him the way he expected.”

Behind the scenes, aides say Trump is obsessing over the Court’s recent rulings, fuming that his justices are failing to “protect the country” from what he sees as politically motivated legal attacks. “He thinks they owe him,” one source said. “He gave them everything — the job, the platform, the legacy.”

Barrett Still Has Her Defenders — Barely

Not everyone is piling on.

Conservative columnist Charles C.W. Cooke defended Barrett in National Review, arguing that criticism of her record reflects a misunderstanding of the Court’s role. “Barrett is a terrific justice,” he wrote, “and, in most cases, those who are criticizing her are forgetting the proper role of the judiciary.”

But even among traditional conservatives, there is growing concern that Trump’s public and private attacks on the Court are crossing a line — and risking long-term damage to the institution he once claimed to protect.

The Political Cost

While Trump’s inner circle fumes, Democrats are watching the infighting with quiet satisfaction. “This is what happens when you politicize the judiciary,” one former White House staffer under Obama told us. “Trump picked these people expecting loyalty, not independence.”

For Trump, though, loyalty has always come first. And as the 2024 election fallout continues into 2025, his grip on the party — and the bench — may be slipping.

“He made her,” one MAGA strategist said. “Now he wants to unmake her.”

And if the Supreme Court doesn’t fall back in line, insiders warn Trump may take his war on the judiciary public. Again.
