President Donald Trump is igniting fury across the country after launching a stunning federal probe into Joe Biden’s mental fitness and decision-making — even as the 82-year-old Democrat battles an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
Critics are slamming the investigation as “cruel,” “politically desperate,” and “a dangerous abuse of power.”
Trump’s DOJ Targets Biden’s Final Days
Sources close to the Trump administration confirmed that the Department of Justice has been quietly directed to examine whether Biden was mentally fit during the final months of his presidency. At the center of the probe: his use of an autopen to authorize presidential pardons — including for his son Hunter Biden and several death row inmates.
“Was Joe Biden actually making decisions?” asked Trump-aligned attorney Ed Martin during an interview Monday. “Or were his family members and staff exploiting his condition to run the White House from behind the curtain?”
Martin confirmed the DOJ is examining whether Biden had the capacity to issue the sweeping clemency orders — or if others acted on his behalf while using tools like the autopen to rubber-stamp presidential decisions.
Biden’s Pardons Under the Microscope
In the waning days of his presidency, Biden granted preemptive pardons to multiple individuals — including Hunter Biden, who had pleaded guilty to tax-related charges and was later convicted of illegally possessing a firearm.
Biden also spared 37 death row inmates in a broad federal clemency order that some conservatives labeled as “radical” and “unconstitutional.” Among those pardoned were also reportedly members of his extended family, including his brother James and sister Valerie.
One White House source who spoke on condition of anonymity defended the clemency orders: “The president acted within his constitutional authority. He believed in mercy, rehabilitation, and correcting systemic injustice. That doesn’t change just because MAGA world is panicking.”
Public Backlash Mounts Against Trump
But the backlash against Trump’s latest move has been swift and emotional — especially given Biden’s very public health battle.
“This is beyond political — it’s vindictive and grotesque,” said former Obama strategist David Axelrod on CNN. “You don’t launch an investigation into a cancer patient’s mental state just to score headlines.”
“He’s a convicted felon going after a man fighting for his life. It’s grotesque,” one X user posted.
Another critic on MSNBC blasted Trump for weaponizing government resources: “He’s turning the DOJ into a revenge machine. And while he’s chasing shadows, he’s showing the same cognitive cracks he accuses Biden of.”
The Dementia Debate Goes Both Ways
The Trump team’s attack hinges on long-running conspiracy theories about Biden’s mental state, but medical professionals have warned against politicizing elder health. Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, a respected oncologist and former Biden advisor, told Morning Joe that Biden’s prostate cancer was likely present during his presidency but added, “That’s not unusual for his age, and it’s very manageable.”
Still, GOP allies claim the White House intentionally hid the diagnosis, citing excerpts from CNN anchor Jake Tapper’s new book Original Sin, which claims aides debated putting Biden in a wheelchair before the 2024 election.
Ironically, questions about cognitive health have also dogged Trump. In recent months, he’s referred to nonexistent people, forgotten the names of his own children on stage, and bizarrely claimed he “invented” the term equalizing during a speech on prescription drug costs.
Former GOP strategist Rick Wilson put it bluntly: “Both men are aging, yes. But only one is trying to turn dementia into a political weapon while pretending he’s still sharp enough to rule. That’s the real danger.”
Meanwhile, Trump’s Own Use of Pardons Raises Eyebrows
The hypocrisy hasn’t gone unnoticed. During his final days in office, Trump issued 143 pardons and 94 sentence commutations — many of which drew intense scrutiny. They included longtime allies, political donors, and nearly 1,600 supporters tied to the January 6 insurrection.
“Trump pardoned war criminals and white-collar crooks,” said Norm Eisen, a former White House ethics lawyer. “But now he wants to pretend Joe Biden is the one abusing executive power?”

As both men head into twilight years marked by scandal, illness, and historic legal battles, the 2028 election looms less like a contest of ideas and more like a clash between two wounded giants dragging the country deeper into chaos.

Trump was impeached over a so-called quid pro quo phone call, which was nothing of the sort, while damning evidence of Biden actually committing that same crime has been ignored over and over by the left. California has turned felonies into misdemeanors for law breaking citizens, while New York turned a misdemeanor, AFTER STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS HAD EXPIRED, into a felony, in prosecuting Trump. Preemptive pardons were virtually unheard of when Biden in exercised them on Hunter, Cheney, Schiff, and others, virtually shielding them from prosecution on any crimes they may have committed! Trump can speak for hours without the help of a teleprompter, while Biden stumbled through speeches WITH a teleprompter. Yet Trump’s mental acuity is being questioned, not Biden’s.
