A familiar face on New York television left viewers stunned — and emotional — after revealing a life-changing diagnosis in real time.
Sara Gore, the Emmy-winning host known for lighting up screens on New York Live and Open House, tearfully announced she’s been diagnosed with breast cancer during a live broadcast on April 30.
Fighting back emotion, Gore looked straight into the camera and delivered the kind of news no one ever wants to share.
“I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and I’m going to be stepping away for treatment and surgery,” she said, her voice cracking. “If I didn’t say that I was a little bit scared, I’d be lying.”
The shocking moment caught viewers off guard — but Gore revealed it blindsided her too.
Despite a strong family history of the disease, with both her mother and sister previously diagnosed, she admitted she still wasn’t prepared for the reality hitting so close to home.
“I always assumed this day would come… but you are never ready,” she said. “Even when you catch it early and you’re doing everything right, it still hits you emotionally. That part really surprised me. It really stung.”
Still, in the middle of the heartbreak, Gore made it clear she’s not facing this fight alone.
She thanked her medical team and her tight-knit support system, saying she feels “loved” and “very supported” both at home and at work.
“I’m exactly where I need to be,” she shared, offering a moment of strength through the tears.
The longtime host will now step away from her shows as she undergoes treatment and surgery, focusing on recovery and healing.
But even as she begins what she called a difficult journey, Gore left viewers with a powerful message — one that struck a chord with many watching at home.
“As hard as this is, I’m choosing to believe there may be a gift in this,” she said. “If anything, it’s already a reminder of how precious life is and how important it is to focus on what really matters.”
And in true comeback fashion, she made one final promise before signing off:
“I’m going to come back better than ever… and I’ll see you on the other side of this.”
For now, fans are rallying behind the beloved TV personality as she steps away from the spotlight — and into the fight of her life.
