A quiet afternoon turned into a nightmare when a Florida grandmother was killed in a shocking hit-and-run right outside her own home.
Police say 77-year-old Vicki Noon was simply checking her mail in the front yard of her Bradenton house on May 1 when a speeding car suddenly veered off the road and slammed into her. The impact was so violent, investigators say, it launched her into the air and left her with catastrophic injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Bradenton Police Department, witnesses saw a gold, older-model Honda sedan speeding away immediately after the crash—never stopping to help. One witness estimated the driver was going around 60 mph when the car left the roadway and struck Noon.
Officers quickly canvassed the neighborhood and tracked down the suspect vehicle parked just a short distance away. What they found raised even more suspicion: the car’s windshield had been covered with a sheet, weighed down by rocks.
Police say the driver, 40-year-old Jordan Beard, was at the home and spoke with detectives. According to investigators, he admitted he had “run over a person” and claimed he covered the windshield to avoid drawing attention.
Authorities also allege Beard appeared to be under the influence of drugs at the time they questioned him.
He was arrested and now faces multiple serious charges, including DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene of a deadly crash, and tampering with evidence. Court records show he has since been released on a $102,500 bond as he awaits his next appearance in court.
For Noon’s family, the loss is unimaginable. Loved ones say she was enjoying her retirement in a 55-and-over community, surrounded by family and looking forward to becoming a great-grandmother.
Her daughter, Jennifer Mulholland, said her mother’s life—and the future she had ahead—was stolen in an instant.
“She gave her all to everyone,” Mulholland said. “She was the love of my father’s life. My best friend. My confidant. And now she’s gone.”
