A stabbing inside Fort Lee High School sent shockwaves through a New Jersey community Tuesday, forcing the campus into lockdown and prompting a swift police response just blocks from one of the nation’s busiest transit hubs.

One person was injured in the attack, though their wounds are not life-threatening, according to local officials. Law enforcement sources say a suspect is in custody, but authorities have yet to confirm the relationship between the victim and the attacker—or whether either was a student.

“This could’ve been far worse,” said a law enforcement source briefed on the situation. “We’re grateful this wasn’t a mass casualty event, but it absolutely raises serious questions.”

The incident drew officers from both the Fort Lee Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, who converged on the campus within minutes of the report. Helicopters hovered above, and streets around the school were quickly cordoned off.

The school, located just minutes from the George Washington Bridge, was placed under immediate lockdown.

“There is no ongoing threat to the school community,” Fort Lee school officials told parents in a statement. “We are cooperating fully with law enforcement.” But the message came with a warning: stay away. All surrounding roads were shut down, classes canceled, and students dismissed early for the day.

The stabbing comes amid renewed scrutiny of school safety policies nationwide. Critics say that while conservatives continue pushing book bans and targeting transgender students, they’ve largely ignored the real threats—violence in schools, crumbling infrastructure, and skyrocketing youth mental health crises.

“Our kids are under siege,” said Donna Morales, a Fort Lee parent who rushed to the school when news broke. “How many more of these incidents do we need before we take real action—before Republicans stop playing culture war games and start protecting our children?”

President Biden has repeatedly called for more federal funding for school counselors and security upgrades, but House Republicans have blocked multiple measures, calling them “overreach.”

Tuesday’s stabbing, while isolated, has reignited calls from education leaders and parents to address the root causes of youth violence—something many say is being drowned out by partisan noise.

“This is a moment for clarity,” said New Jersey State Senator Loretta Weinberg (D). “We need to stop fighting over what books are in the library and start focusing on the safety of our students and teachers.”

The investigation is ongoing, and the identities of those involved have not yet been released.

  1. Like the democrats I think all guns should be banned so that no student will ever be stabbed again.

  2. That was a stupid comment from Nav Vet, ban all guns to stop all stabbings, I’ve never heard such nonsense, here’s some sarcasm, ban all knives to stop knife violence like banning all guns to stop gun violence cause the knives & guns attack people, not bad people who would use whatever to harm.
