Hollywood actress Jaime King has lost sole physical custody of her two sons after a judge ruled in favor of her ex-husband, filmmaker Kyle Newman. The court’s decision comes after the Hart of Dixie star was ordered into a six-month rehabilitation program for substance abuse.

While King, 44, and Newman, 48, will continue to share legal custody of their sons—James, 11, and Leo, 9—the boys will now primarily live with their father. The ruling marks a significant development in the former couple’s ongoing legal battles following their contentious 2020 split after 13 years of marriage.

Strict Supervision and Court-Mandated Treatment

According to court records, King’s visitation rights have been heavily restricted. She is permitted to see her sons three times a week, but only under strict supervision from an approved list of monitors. The order stems from her ongoing struggle with substance abuse, which the court has determined poses a risk to her children.

In addition to rehab, King must complete a 26-week parenting program, undergo weekly drug and alcohol testing, and participate in individual counseling. A therapist will determine when it is appropriate for her to attend counseling sessions with her sons.

A source close to the case revealed:

“Jaime has been given a path to regain more time with her kids, but she has to follow through on the court’s requirements. This is about their safety and well-being,” the insider explained.

A Bitter Divorce and Abuse Allegations

King and Newman’s divorce has been particularly acrimonious, with both sides hurling serious accusations at each other. In court filings, King alleged that Newman was emotionally abusive, while Newman claimed his ex-wife was a chronic drug addict who refused treatment.

Despite their legal war, sources say Newman’s focus has been ensuring stability for their children.

“Kyle’s priority has always been protecting James and Leo,” said a friend of the filmmaker. “He’s doing what he thinks is best for them.”

Connections to Taylor Swift & Hollywood’s Response

The custody battle has also drawn attention due to King’s high-profile connections in Hollywood. Her younger son, Leo, is the godson of global superstar Taylor Swift, who once included King in her famous “girl squad” alongside stars like Gigi Hadid and Selena Gomez.

While Swift has remained silent on the legal proceedings, fans have noted that the singer hasn’t publicly interacted with King in years. The actress, once a staple of L.A.’s social scene, has largely stayed out of the spotlight amid her personal struggles.

What’s Next for Jaime King?

With her career at a standstill and custody of her children limited, King faces a difficult road ahead. If she successfully completes her court-mandated programs, she may be able to regain more parenting time. However, failure to comply could jeopardize her parental rights even further.

The actress has yet to comment on the ruling, but those close to her say she is determined to prove herself and rebuild her life.

“Jaime loves her boys more than anything,” a friend shared. “She knows this is her wake-up call.”

As King navigates the biggest personal crisis of her life, only time will tell whether she can turn things around.
