Lauren Sanchez, the seasoned helicopter pilot and fiancée of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, took to social media with sharp commentary aimed at former President Donald Trump following his controversial remarks about the tragic plane crash in Washington, D.C. that claimed over 60 lives.

Sanchez, an outspoken advocate for aviation safety, posted a video to her 860K followers that criticized the divisive rhetoric used by Trump, who had attempted to link diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices to the deadly incident. The video, featuring NYU Professor Scott Galloway, zeroed in on how rage-driven commentary dominates media platforms. Galloway’s statement—“There’s something that sells more than s–, and that’s rage”—directly addressed how algorithms thrive on conflict, pushing further division.

Though Galloway’s words weren’t aimed specifically at Trump, many on social media saw them as a “thinly veiled critique” of the former president’s inflammatory comments.

A Tragic Crash, and a Controversial Response

The Washington, D.C. crash occurred when a commercial airliner collided with an Army helicopter near Ronald Reagan National Airport, killing 60 passengers and four crew members. Trump’s response to the tragedy, given at his first press conference after the incident, quickly raised eyebrows. When asked whether diversity hiring policies were to blame, Trump replied, “It could have been,” without providing any substantial evidence.

Trump’s comments shocked many, especially as he insinuated that DEI initiatives might have compromised safety, directly contradicting standard investigations into such incidents. He furthered his claims by accusing former Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama of focusing on DEI over safety standards at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Trump was unapologetic, defending his remarks with a vague assertion: “There are things you could question,” he said. “I have some pretty good ideas on what happened.” He also accused the Biden administration of lowering the standards for air traffic controllers, blaming psychological quality and brain power for the tragedy.

Lauren Sanchez Responds: ‘They Want You to Fight’

Sanchez, known for her career in aviation and her passion for supporting women in the industry, made it clear she wasn’t backing down from the fight for truth and fairness. With her extensive experience as a licensed helicopter pilot since 2016, Sanchez shared her unique insight into the gravity of the issue at hand. “It’s all about generating anger,” Sanchez stated in her post. “The more we fight, the more the algorithms win. And that’s not a game we should play.”

Sanchez has a personal stake in the aviation world; her father, a commercial pilot and flight instructor, inspired her passion for flying. She founded the female-owned aerial film company, Black Ops Aviation, and was awarded the prestigious Elling Halvorson Vertical Flight Hall of Fame Award in 2024. Her accolades within the aviation industry make her a credible voice on the subject.

Her message to her followers is clear: Divisive politics and rage-baiting commentary distract from the real issues, undermining the importance of safety and accountability in aviation.

Rising Voices of Criticism

As the nation processes the horrific crash, voices like Sanchez’s are gaining attention, calling out the dangers of inflammatory rhetoric. Critics argue that Trump’s focus on DEI rather than systemic flaws in aviation safety is both irresponsible and divisive. “They want you to fight,” Sanchez echoed in her post. “And that’s exactly what these people want—divisions over issues that should unite us.”

As the investigation into the crash continues, many are calling for a renewed focus on comprehensive, fact-driven discussions about air safety—free from political agendas or divisive narratives. The tragedy has left a profound impact, but how we respond could shape the future of both public discourse and aviation policies.

The Road Ahead

While the official investigation is ongoing, the debate over DEI in safety practices will no doubt intensify. In the meantime, Sanchez’s message is clear: progress, not division, must be the focus. It’s a sentiment shared by many who believe that when it comes to aviation safety, the only thing that should matter is the science.

  1. When as a President all you are spewing is hate for other Races God help us as a Country. I hope the voters who put you in the position you are in now, prayer that you become human one of these days.

  2. Trump was asked about DEI and the aircraft crash by a reporter and his answer was .. IDK it could be but IDK end quote … Love how the media alters the reporting. That is why I watch live information not second hand.

  3. They tried to claim that dei was not used in finding air controllers but very quickly that was pointed out as a lie.
