Fox News host Laura Ingraham sparked a social media storm by urging pop icon Taylor Swift to perform at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration. The suggestion comes after Swift publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris during the election, a move that polarized her fan base and political commentators alike.
In September, following the first presidential debate, Swift announced her support for Harris on Instagram, encouraging her massive fan base—known as “Swifties”—to vote. The singer’s endorsement resonated with young voters, especially women, a key demographic in the election. Despite this, Trump secured a second term, with his inauguration scheduled for January 20, 2025.
During her show The Ingraham Angle, the conservative host addressed Swift directly: “Call Trump and offer to perform at the inauguration. It would be smart for Taylor Swift and a great moment of unity for the country.”
This comment drew widespread attention after a video clip was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @Acyn, an editor for MeidasTouch, a progressive news platform. The video has been viewed over 250,000 times, sparking heated debates online.

Critics of the idea were swift and vocal. “’This would be smart for Taylor Swift’ is code for ‘We’ll come after you if you don’t,’” one user posted, suggesting the proposal carried veiled threats. Another wrote, “Why would Swift tarnish her brand by associating with Trump? Terrible move.”
Others mocked the concept. “Trump can only get Kid Rock or the Village People at this point,” a commenter quipped. Some referenced past tensions, including Trump’s Truth Social post following Swift’s endorsement of Harris: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
Still, a minority supported Ingraham’s idea. One fan tweeted, “This could be a display of unity. Let’s make it happen!”
Swift’s relationship with Trump and his supporters has been rocky. In 2020, she criticized Trump’s remarks on Black Lives Matter protests, accusing him of stoking racism. Her post—“We will vote you out in November”—cemented her as a vocal critic of his administration.
More recently, Trump’s campaign circulated AI-generated images depicting Swift as a supporter, which the singer denounced. She called the manipulation a blatant attempt to mislead her fans, reiterating her political stance by signing off with “Childless Cat Lady,” a jab at Vice President-elect JD Vance’s past comments about Democrats.
Swift’s influence transcends music. With a career-defining Eras Tour generating billions, she holds significant cultural sway. Political endorsements from figures like her can energize voters and reshape public discourse. However, aligning with a polarizing figure like Trump could risk alienating parts of her audience.
Neither Swift nor her representatives have responded to Ingraham’s suggestion. While the pop star has historically avoided events tied to Trump, this latest controversy adds another layer to the ongoing dialogue about celebrity activism and its role in politics.
As the nation gears up for the inauguration, the conversation underscores deeper divides in American society. Whether Swift’s name stays in the headlines or fades from this particular narrative remains to be seen.
