In a bizarre and brazen burglary, two thieves dressed as Santa Claus stormed an electronics store in Cláudio, Brazil, early Sunday morning. But instead of spreading holiday cheer, they shattered glass, looted merchandise, and fled into the night—captured in a shocking security video that’s gone viral.
The footage, timestamped just before 4 a.m., shows the duo smashing through the store’s glass door with ruthless precision.
One of the Santas, clearly in a rush, slips on the shattered glass but quickly recovers, snatching electronics and even helping himself to shelves of tumblers and alcohol. Their sacks—intended for gifts—were instead filled with stolen goods.
Within minutes, the pair made their getaway, speeding off before police could respond. Authorities have yet to make any arrests, and the suspects remain at large.
For store owner Gustavo de Souza, the robbery is a painful reminder of past trauma. “It was a huge blow,” de Souza told local outlet G1. “I was robbed at gunpoint years ago. It took me three years to rebuild my business after that. Now, just as things were finally stable, they’ve taken everything again.”
De Souza’s store, a small business he nurtured back to life, has once again been thrown into chaos. The losses are significant, and with Christmas around the corner, the timing couldn’t be worse.
Residents of Cláudio, a small town in the state of Minas Gerais, expressed shock and outrage over the festive crime. “It’s heartbreaking,” said local shopkeeper Maria Ferreira. “We all know Gustavo and how hard he’s worked. Seeing something like this happen during what should be a joyful season is just devastating.”
Police spokesperson Paulo Mendes confirmed that investigators are reviewing the footage and canvassing nearby areas for leads. “We urge anyone with information to come forward,” Mendes stated. “These individuals will be brought to justice.”
As the holiday season unfolds, de Souza faces a difficult road ahead, but the community has already begun rallying around him. “We won’t let this ruin Christmas,” Ferreira added. “We’ll help him rebuild again.”
For now, the Santa bandits remain a grim reminder that not all who don the red suit come bearing gifts. Some, it seems, come to take them.
