A tranquil morning at a small Christian school in Palermo, California, turned into a scene of chaos and tragedy as gunfire erupted, leaving two young students wounded and the suspected gunman dead.
The incident occurred at the Feather River School of Seventh-day Adventists, an elementary school with just 33 students enrolled. Located in the rural community of Palermo, about 65 miles north of Sacramento, the school typically serves as a peaceful haven for families seeking a faith-based education.
But shortly after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, peace was shattered.
“We have confirmed the suspected shooter is deceased,” the Butte County Sheriff’s Office announced in a statement. Law enforcement officials say they found the gunman with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The connection between the suspect and the school remains unclear. Authorities have not yet released his identity or any potential motive.
Two students, whose ages and conditions have not been disclosed, were rushed to a nearby hospital. Their families have been notified, but details regarding the extent of their injuries remain closely guarded.
Parents, gripped with fear and uncertainty, gathered at a nearby church where students were evacuated. School officials worked with law enforcement to ensure a swift and safe reunification process.
“It’s every parent’s worst nightmare,” said Maria Lopez, a parent of a fifth-grade student. “I never thought something like this could happen here.”
The Seventh-day Adventist school, which promotes Christian values and a tight-knit community atmosphere, is now grappling with the shock of the incident.
Palermo, a small town with a population of around 5,000, is not accustomed to such violence. “This is a quiet community. We’re all in shock,” said local resident Tim Caldwell, who lives just a few blocks from the school. “You never think it’ll happen in a place like this.”
As investigators comb through the scene, questions loom large: Who was the gunman? Why did he target the school?
For now, the community is left to mourn, pray, and wait for answers.

Don’t call him a “gunman”, words like that confuse the dufus Democrats… call him an attempted murderer… and likely a junkie…
