The mysterious disappearance of 30-year-old Hawaiian photographer Hannah Kobayashi has left her family desperate for answers as the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) declares her “voluntarily missing.” Despite this classification, her loved ones insist the search is “far from over.”

“We are deeply grateful for the urgency and dedication law enforcement has shown,” the family stated on social media. “But we remain hopeful that Hannah is safe. We urge everyone to continue the search.”

Kobayashi vanished in early November while visiting Los Angeles. According to police, she was last seen at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on November 8, where she intentionally missed a connecting flight. Surveillance footage released by Customs and Border Protection later showed her crossing the southern border near Tijuana on November 12 at 12:15 p.m.

“She left her phone behind and had expressed a desire to disconnect from modern technology,” LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said during a press conference. “At this time, we have found no evidence of foul play, nor any indication she was targeted by traffickers.”

But her family isn’t convinced. Volunteers have plastered missing person flyers across downtown Los Angeles, including near Crypto.com Arena, urging the public to remain vigilant.

“There are too many unanswered questions,” Kobayashi’s cousin, Sydni Kobayashi, told Hawaii News Now. “Hannah would never just disappear without telling someone. This isn’t like her.”

The LAPD’s position has sparked controversy, with some questioning whether enough resources are being allocated to the search. “We need answers and a resolution that ensures Hannah’s safety,” the family emphasized.

Kobayashi, a celebrated nature photographer from Maui, had been documenting her travels in California before her disappearance. Friends describe her as adventurous but deeply connected to her family and community.

“She loves capturing the beauty of the world, but she always comes back home,” close friend Brandi Yee said. “That’s why this doesn’t make sense.”

The family has asked the public to avoid speculation and instead focus on spreading verified information. “Sharing accurate details about her case is crucial,” their statement read. “We deeply appreciate your continued support in bringing Hannah home.”

As days turn into weeks, the search for Hannah Kobayashi continues. Her family clings to hope, urging law enforcement and the public not to give up. “The search is far from over,” they insist. “We won’t stop until we find her.”
