A high-end wedding photographer and his family were shocked and horrified when a fellow United Airlines passenger launched into a racist tirade against them shortly after their flight landed in Los Angeles.

The incident, which was caught on camera by the photographer, has gone viral, sparking outrage online and raising questions about racial discrimination in public spaces.

Pervez Taufiq, a wedding photographer who travels extensively with his wife and three sons, was returning from Cancun on November 24, when the encounter occurred. After disembarking from the plane, Taufiq, his wife, and children boarded a transfer bus headed toward the terminal. It was there that a fellow passenger, a woman who had been seated nearby during the flight, began harassing his family.

Taufiq, a Boston native, recalled a brief interaction with the woman during the flight, when he had simply moved aside to allow her to pass. He had no idea that this small moment would lead to a confrontation later. The woman reportedly became agitated, accusing Taufiq’s son of being too noisy and telling him to “shut up.” As tensions escalated on the bus, Taufiq began recording the verbal abuse.

The woman can be heard in the footage hurling a barrage of racist insults at the family. “Your family is from India, you have no respect, you have no rules, you think you can push everyone, push, push, push,” she shouted. Taufiq, visibly frustrated, responded with a sarcastic remark, saying, “You should tell me again to have more curry, right?” The woman then threatened to film him, calling him a “tandoori ass.”

Taufiq, who was born in the United States, responded firmly to the woman’s claims that he wasn’t American, shouting, “I’m American, lady!” When he told a fellow passenger that the woman should be removed for her rude and racist behavior, she turned the tables, accusing him of being racist toward her.

“It felt like an out-of-body experience,” Taufiq told The Post. “You see this stuff on the internet, but you never think it will happen to you.”

The situation escalated further when bystanders on the bus reported the woman’s behavior to United Airlines staff. Taufiq’s recording shows the woman being removed from the bus by airline personnel after a brief exchange. The photographer later speculated that the woman was intoxicated, noting her erratic behavior both during and after the flight.

Taufiq and his wife, who manage a successful photography business, have traveled extensively for their work, covering more than 200 weddings annually. Because of their busy schedule, they homeschool their children, who are often by their side on their travels. Despite the painful experience, Taufiq said the support from strangers has been overwhelming. Journalist Katie Couric even weighed in, calling the incident “sickening” and expressing sympathy for the family’s ordeal.

“Good God. What is wrong with people? What a sick, sick person,” Couric commented. “And so sorry your children had to be exposed to this.”

While Taufiq and his family are still processing the event, they’ve received dozens of messages of support from the public, demonstrating solidarity against hate and racism. United Airlines has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
