In a leaked recording obtained by The Guardian, Donald Trump is heard making inappropriate jokes about the widow of Corey Comparatore, a man who was fatally shot at one of his rallies. The comments came during a private dinner on August 10 in Aspen, Colorado, attended by ultra-wealthy donors and political elites.

During the gathering, Trump reportedly recalled giving a check to Comparatore’s widow, noting her grief, but then making a tasteless remark. “She said, ‘I’d rather have my husband,’” Trump allegedly told the room, before adding, “Now I know some women here wouldn’t say the same. At least four couples here would’ve been thrilled.”

The dinner took place at the $38 million mansion of art collectors John and Amy Phelan and included high-profile figures like Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Rep. Lauren Boebert, and gambling mogul Steve Wynn. Attendees reportedly paid up to $500,000 for the privilege of being on the event’s host committee, with a minimum donation of $25,000 to attend.

The event wasn’t just about humor, however. According to the recording, Trump also launched into a profanity-laced rant about immigration, alleging that political leaders from around the world are intentionally sending criminals to the U.S. to undermine the country. He further claimed that convicted criminals from the Democratic Republic of the Congo had been released and sent to the U.S., despite the Congo government denying this.

Trump reportedly caught himself after a series of harsh statements, remarking, “I hate to use that foul language,” before continuing to paint a dire picture of immigrants from Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, claiming they were worse than America’s worst criminals.

In his remarks to the wealthy audience, Trump didn’t miss the opportunity to attack his political rivals, specifically Vice President Kamala Harris. He reiterated the claim that the 2024 election could be the last if Democrats win, emphasizing the urgency of victory: “We gotta win, or this country’s going to hell.”

The leaked audio underscores Trump’s ongoing controversial rhetoric, blending humor and alarming claims at an event designed to court the financial elite.
