Rob Marciano, the former Good Morning America meteorologist who was fired by ABC News, is making a comeback by joining CBS News, according to reports. His new role at CBS comes after a controversial exit from ABC, which was reportedly spurred by a heated altercation with a GMA producer.
Back in April, Marciano’s departure made headlines following multiple complaints from network staff about his behavior, according to insiders. Despite this, Marciano has now found a new home at CBS News, which is expanding its weather team.
A key figure in his transition appears to be Wendy Fisher, formerly an ABC News executive now overseeing CBS’s weather operation. Fisher reportedly maintained a positive relationship with Marciano even after his departure from ABC.
While it’s unclear when Marciano will return to the air, the details surrounding his exit from ABC continue to raise eyebrows. Sources claim that a “screaming match” with a producer at Good Morning America was the final straw for ABC, after a string of incidents that allegedly included uncomfortable encounters with colleagues.
According to Page Six, Marciano was previously banned from the GMA studio in 2022 after a colleague raised concerns about his conduct. Reports also suggest that Marciano was grappling with personal challenges, including a divorce and anger management issues, during that time.
Following his firing, reports surfaced that Marciano had been sidelined for at least a month in 2022 and required to undergo anger management training.
Some colleagues, however, were shocked by the network’s decision, with some describing the media coverage of his exit as a “hit job.” A former colleague at CNN even praised Marciano, calling him a great team player who always had the crew’s back in the field.
As Marciano prepares for this next chapter at CBS News, it remains to be seen how his career will evolve after the fallout from ABC. What is clear, though, is that Marciano’s talent and experience in the field have earned him another shot in the competitive world of broadcast news.
