At least one person has been killed and six others are seriously injured after a motorist rammed his car into the terrace of a French restaurant.
The driver is said to fled the scene after ploughing his black Toyota into Le Ramus restaurant in Paris at 7.30pm – leaving at least three people in critical condition.
A waiter at another cafe just 200 metres away said he saw the car come past “at top speed” before hearing a loud noise.
A staff member who watched on from another restaurant claimed the car “went the wrong way down a one-way street” before “ploughing” into the terrace.
The driver then fled, leaving a passenger still in their seat.
Reports later claimed the driver was arrested an hour later.
The crash site was then searched and a bomb squad called to do routine checks as part of “safety measures”.
At least four fire engines were stationed close by while soldiers patrolled the nearby Gambetta Square.
Cops investigating the scene said one of the passengers of the car tested positive for alcohol and drugs.
Investigators are yet to confirm if it was an accident or a “voluntary act” by the driver.
