Will Michelle Obama Run for President?

Whispers of Michelle Obama’s potential presidential candidacy have grown louder as comments of her claiming she is “running” resurface. The former First Lady’s alleged aspirations for the Oval Office, orchestrated by her husband Barack Obama, have ignited discussions among political circles.

While neither of the Obamas has officially confirmed these rumors, reports suggest a concerted effort to gauge support for Michelle’s candidacy.

Sources close to the former First Lady claim that she has expressed intentions to run, backed by her husband’s subtle manoeuvres within Democratic circles.

Amid concerns over Joe Biden’s faltering approval ratings and the perceived threat of a Donald Trump resurgence, attention has turned to Michelle Obama as a potential alternative. Reportedly, “Obama has polled donors,” according to the New York Post.

The couple’s strategic moves to sideline Biden and position Michelle as a contender have not gone unnoticed.

Recent interactions with high-profile figures, including hedge fund CEOs, have fueled speculation about Michelle’s political ambitions.

In 2022 she told hedge fund CEOs: “I am running, and I am asking for your support.”

Despite denials from some Democratic insiders, a survey was given out to a small number of DNC donors, asking them how they feel about Michelle’s candidacy. It is not known what the results were.

Michelle has expressed trepidation about the possibility of a Trump victory, hinting at her possible election bid at the same time.

“I plan to run,” she reportedly told individuals in New York in 2022, followed by a more recent sentiment of being “terrified” at the prospect of Trump winning again, suggesting a deliberate exploration of her candidacy.

However, questions linger about Michelle’s ability to unite a fractured political landscape, given past criticisms of her interactions with certain groups.

Republican strategist Karl Rove shut down the speculation calling it “pure lunacy.” 

In his remarks Wednesday, Rove suggested it’s possible Biden will not end up being the Democratic nominee, but he said it would definitely not be Michelle Obama, who has repeatedly said she has no interest in the position or in running for office.

“Somebody is going to wake up on that side, Jill Biden or maybe his sister, Valerie Biden Owens and say, ‘You know, Joe, this is not the way for you to go down in the history books,” Rove told host Stuart Varney during a segment on Fox Business.

“Step aside, let somebody else be chosen at the convention and let somebody else go into the lists against Donald Trump in the in the fall.’ I just think the Democrats are not going to allow this to continue.” 

“Can you deal with this quickly,” Varney then asked. “I keep hearing that Michelle Obama will be shifted into the … no, you’re shaking you head. It’s not going to happen?”

Rove slammed the idea, saying that she resents politics and was not even in favor of her husband, Barack, running for public office.

“No, no, look, look, she hates politics,” Rove said. “You read her autobiography. She didn’t want her husband to run for the state Senate. She didn’t want him to run for the presidency. She is not a political animal.” 

Rove added he was asked about the issue during former President Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign, as the theory gained traction four years ago.

“They thought somehow or another, Biden was going to be pushed aside by Obama, Andrew Cuomo was going to be the Democratic candidate, and his running mate was going to be Michelle Obama,” Rove said. “And, you know, I told the other Trump people, including the president himself, this is sheer utter lunacy, starting with the fact she hates politics, period. She loves the life she’s got.”
