Will Escaped American Soldier Return From North Korea?

An American soldier named Travis King, stationed in South Korea, crossed the tightly guarded border into North Korea on July 18 in a very uncommon act that aggravated the already strained relations between the United States and North Korea. The United Nations Command (UNC) and North Korea have started talks to resolve the issue in reaction to this unexpected development.

While touring the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) separating the two Koreas, Travis King, a US Army soldier, allegedly ran into North Korea. This occurrence is concerning and perplexing because the DMZ is one of the most closely guarded frontiers in the whole world.

The UNC and North Korea’s military have begun talking, according to Lieutenant General Andrew Harrison, a British Army officer who serves as the deputy commander of the multinational force monitoring the Korean Armistice Agreement.
