In the wake of Spotify’s recent split with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, new allegations have emerged claiming that Markle did not personally conduct all the interviews for her “Archetypes” podcast.
According to a report by Podnews, “multiple sources” have claimed that some interviews were actually conducted by members of Markle’s staff, with her questions being edited in later.
The claims have sparked curiosity and concern among listeners, prompting inquiries to Markle’s representatives and Archewell Audio for clarification.
As of now, there has been no official response from Markle or the podcast production team regarding these allegations.
This revelation follows the joint statement released by Spotify and Archewell Audio announcing their mutual decision to part ways.
The statement expressed pride in the series they created together but did not provide specific details about the reasons behind the breakup.
The Archewell media company, launched by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, reportedly failed to produce enough content to fulfill the terms of their $20 million deal signed in 2020.
Despite the end of their collaboration with Spotify, an Archewell Productions spokeswoman assured The Wall Street Journal that Markle is actively working on developing more content for the “Archetypes” audience on another platform.
Criticism and backlash have accompanied the fractured deal. Notably, sportswriter and podcaster Bill Simmons publicly criticized the couple, revealing that he had previously met with Prince Harry to discuss podcast ideas. Simmons referred to them as “f–king grifters” in a recent episode of his podcast.
Speculation about Markle’s direct involvement in interviewing guests arose when Allison Yarrow, a former podcast guest, shared an Instagram post in which she thanked a producer for being an “excellent interviewer.”
Yarrow’s episode, titled “To ‘B’ or not to ‘B’,” delved into the topic of labeling women as “difficult” and explored the implications of such language. The Daily Mail reported that Yarrow’s comments were edited and interwoven with Markle’s own statements in the podcast audio.
“Archetypes” premiered in August 2022 and was the sole project to come out of the Spotify deal. With just 12 episodes, the podcast featured notable guests such as Jameela Jamil, Serena Williams, Paris Hilton, and Mindy Kaling.
While the episodes showcased deep conversations between Markle and A-list celebrities and friends, they also included clips from experts, academics, and authors discussing specific topics. It remains unclear whether Markle personally engaged with these experts or if their comments were incorporated separately.
The allegations surrounding Markle’s podcast interviews have raised questions about the transparency and authenticity of the show.
Listeners are eager to understand the extent of Markle’s involvement and whether the interviews truly reflect her own interactions with guests.
As the controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen how Markle and the podcast team will address these claims and regain the trust of their audience.
