Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) — an outspoken critic of former President Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans — on Monday said he feared the “real possibility” of the United States becoming engulfed in civil war.
GOP whitewashing of the U.S. Capitol riot was “extremely dangerous,” Kinzinger, who last week was censured by his own party for serving on the House committee investigating the Trump-incited violence, said on CNN’s “The Situation Room.”
“If there was a word even more intense than dangerous I would use that,” he added.
Kinzinger, who is not seeking reelection to Congress this year, suggested it was “not a far thought” that “someday, some militia shows up somewhere to do something, and then some counter-militia shows up, and truly at that point that is how you end up in a civil war.”
“I never would say that we would ever have ended in that position, but I now believe it is a real possibility that we have to be wide-eyed as we walk into so we don’t have that happen again,” he said.
Pressed by anchor Wolf Blitzer on whether he truly feared a civil war was brewing, Kinzinger responded:
“I do. And a year ago I would have said no, not a chance. But I have come to realize when we don’t see each other as fellow Americans, when we begin to separate into cultural identities, when we begin to basically give up everything we believe so we could be part of a group, and then when you have leaders that come and abuse that faithfulness of that group to violent ends, as we saw on January 6, we would be naïve to think it’s not possible here.”
“We have to look at this wide-eyed and walk in and say, we may have differences as left and right, but we have to bridge those differences, because our basic survival is at stake, the basic survival of this democracy,” he added.

As an independent non-partisan voter, I must say that harsh rhetoric from the right blaming the left for everything contributes equally as much as the leftist agenda. What Adam Kinzinger is saying is come together, air your differences, find common ground and develop a center – this leads to unity for all Americans which is the opposite of civil war. Ask yourself, if the left were to give in, where would the right give in?
No. What he is saying was the protest which became a riot was a planned insurrection by an organized militia that Trump commanded. That is what he said. So no there will be no peace until our differences are settled. Because it was not a planned insurrection.

Kissmyassinger, it appeared, was trying to become attractive to the Chicago Dems so he could take on Tammy Duckworthless in the 2022 Senate race. But he found out he is about as appealing to the Dems as he is to the Republicans. Now he is just trying out for a position on CNN…

Kinzinger needs to come to the realization of essential values, and, culture group philosophies dividing this country i.e. Marxist supporters, Antifa, BLM, Deep State ideologists, the list goes on. If values of which America are not appreciated and of which America was founded, exercise your right to leave this country and carry on with your ill-thought behavior elsewhere.

I worry for the entire country, we are more divided than ever before. What happened to the days when ALL Americans tried their best to do what was good for the whole country. I’m an immigrant from Asia and one of the first things I learned to do was to speak English. Next, it was to learn more about western/American values which are the backbone of our society. When politicians and others who have influence tend to undermine the Constitution and all it stands for, we have a crisis on our hands.
America is a REPUBLIC, not a democracy as defined in true political terms. When the majority of the people want certain things, then their repersentatives should try their best to listen and promote ideas that reflect the populist views. Now too many individuals are not even communicating with each other nor listening to the “silent” majority.
