This mom shared a heartbreaking video detailing her experience of being fat-shamed and thrown out of a gym for wearing a sports bra.
Shelby Rodriguez (@shelby.bellz) is a 26-year-old TikToker and mom of one who recently shared a painful experience where she was fat-shamed and asked to leave a gym for showing her belly in a sports bra.
The viral clip begins with footage of a distraught Rodriguez addressing the camera in the front seat of her car.
Through tears, she explained that upon arriving at the gym, “the lady at the front desk said that they have a policy where you’re not allowed to wear sports bras,” and that basically, “you can’t be showing your belly.”
“For reference, this is my shirt,” Rodriguez noted, showing her basic black sports bra, which barely reveals an inch of her torso.
“She said, ‘It’s fine for this time, but just so you know for next time,’” Rodriguez continued. “So I was like, ‘Okay, that’s fine,’ and I went to do my workout.”
Rodriguez then explains that 15 minutes into her workout, the gym’s program coordinator approached her and asked her to leave.
“I’m so embarrassed!” Rodriguez said before breaking down into sobs.
The emotional clip struck a chord with viewers, who were quick to offer comfort and support in addition to naming the gym, as reported in the Daily Mail.
“Time for a new gym [honey.] I’m so sorry that happened to you,” one user commented.
“I hear you. You’re valid. And I’m so sorry soul sister, this is wrong,” assured another viewer.
“Oh, honey, do not be embarrassed. I would name and shame them. Don’t cry, just remember [you’re] beautiful and strong,” one person said.
When it comes to fitness and health, the most important thing to consider is what feels right for you and your body. Other people don’t get to decide what that looks like or determine those standards.

Find another Gym where they don’t hire azzholes. Sorry they treated you badly. I just don’t know what is wrong with young people any more, more than a few seem to be raised with no empathy and taught that its “all about the money.”
Owners have a right to set standards that they want for their business. They may have had previous problems with clothing and had to set a dress code that they enforce equally across the board, no exceptions in order to be fair to everyone. They should post their standards. Patrons can find a business where they feel comfortable.
If that’s her only problem she shpi;d count her blessings. toooo many pissy whiners this country has produced.
I don’t believe anyone should be fat shamed for any reason but it’s called a sports bra for a reason. It’s a bra made to be worn under a shirt when your doing sports. Just because someone wants to exercise in public in their underwear doesn’t mean every else is required to see it. Whatever happened to modesty?
She should be treated better than that!!! The employees are very stupid and have no empathy for anyone!!!!
