Morning Joe Panel Holds Mock Prayer for Tim Scott After Wild GOP Speech (Video)

The Morning Joe panel broke into an impromptu prayer for Republican Sen. Tim Scott on Thursday after host Joe Scarborough mocked the South Carolina senator’s fiery speech at the GOP’s midterm convention in Dallas.

Scott delivered one of the night’s most animated speeches, repeatedly taking aim at Democrats and warning that the upcoming midterms would determine the direction of the country.

At one point, he called Democratic candidates “dangerous,” “radical” and “weird,” while singling out Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico.

Scott also accused Democrats of rejecting American culture and dramatically acted out the idea of the country’s “heart” being ripped away if Republicans lose.

The performance quickly became a target on Morning Joe the next morning.

Scarborough replayed part of Scott’s speech and called it “really weird,” questioning the senator’s exaggerated delivery and dramatic gestures.

He then turned to Rev. Al Sharpton and asked what he thought Scott had been doing onstage.

Sharpton responded by suggesting everyone should “join hands and pray for him.”

Scarborough immediately played along, reaching for the hands of those sitting around the table and telling Sharpton to lead the prayer.

Sharpton then offered a tongue-in-cheek plea for Scott, saying the senator needed an “intervention” and asking the Lord to “bring him back in.”

Co-host Mika Brzezinski laughed along as the panel continued the bit.

Scarborough followed by jokingly thanking “baby Jesus” before the group released hands.

Sharpton later insisted that, despite the humor, he was genuinely concerned by Scott’s performance.

He argued that Scott appeared to be going unusually far in his attacks and suggested the senator was overcompensating politically.

Scarborough agreed that the speech was “rough.”

Scott’s remarks were part of the Republican Party’s two-day midterm convention in Dallas, where President Donald Trump and other GOP figures sought to rally voters ahead of the 2026 elections. The event has also drawn criticism and mockery from some cable-news commentators, including Scarborough, who had already taken aim at the convention before Scott’s speech.
