Biden Issues Major Health Update After Cancer Diagnosis

Former President Joe Biden has revealed a major update in his battle with aggressive prostate cancer, saying the radiation treatment he underwent last year “worked as intended.”

Biden, 83, shared the encouraging news Tuesday while marking Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, admitting the annual campaign has taken on a much more personal meaning since his diagnosis.

“More than 330,000 American men this year will hear the words we did last spring when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer,” Biden wrote on X.

The former president revealed in May 2025 that doctors had diagnosed him with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had already spread to his bones. His office said at the time that the cancer had a Gleason score of 9, placing it among the more aggressive forms of the disease, but noted that it was hormone-sensitive and could be treated.

Biden later underwent radiation and hormone treatment, completing his radiation therapy in the fall of 2025. Now, nearly a year later, he says the treatment produced the result doctors were hoping for.

“I am deeply grateful to the doctors, nurses and other medical professionals who helped to control my cancer and who continue to take such good care of me,” Biden wrote.

“Their skill, dedication, and compassion mean so much. The radiation treatment from last fall worked as intended, and I continue to do the things I care about, like finishing my memoir.”

Biden also used his personal health update to urge men not to put off conversations with their doctors about prostate cancer screening, stressing the importance of catching the disease early.

Despite his ongoing cancer battle, Biden said he has remained busy, including putting the finishing touches on his upcoming memoir, Promise Me, America.

The book is scheduled for release on November 17 and will look back on Biden’s single term in the White House, including major decisions and events from his presidency.

Biden’s latest announcement offers an encouraging update more than a year after the former president first disclosed the serious diagnosis that had already spread beyond his prostate.
