Elon Musk is once again at the center of a political firestorm after a stunning new claim suggested the billionaire appeared unusually confident about Donald Trump’s 2024 election victory before the results were known.
The allegation comes from Ashley St. Clair, the mother of one of Musk’s children, who makes the claim in an upcoming documentary about the Tesla and SpaceX chief.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, St. Clair says in filmmaker Alex Gibney’s documentary Musk that the billionaire displayed a “degree of certainty” about the election outcome that she had never seen from him before.
“He had told me [before the election] he was going to unleash the ‘anomaly in the matrix,’” St. Clair says in the film.
The documentary reportedly shows text messages between Musk, 55, and St. Clair, 28, as part of the segment.
In one alleged message, Musk reportedly wrote, “I have ten thousand lasers in space.”
When Gibney asks St. Clair off-camera whether Musk was referring to SpaceX’s Starlink satellite network, she responds, “I mean, I don’t know where else he has space lasers.”
There is no publicly presented evidence in the report showing Musk manipulated election results, and the remarks remain allegations made by St. Clair in the documentary.
Still, Musk’s enormous influence during the 2024 campaign is no secret.
The billionaire reportedly poured more than $290 million into efforts supporting Trump and other Republican candidates, becoming one of the most powerful financial forces in the race.
Musk also appeared at campaign events, held town halls in crucial swing states and used his massive X platform to weigh heavily into political debates.
At one point, a political action committee backed by Musk handed out $1 million checks to selected petition signers, generating enormous attention — and controversy — during the campaign.
Trump ultimately defeated his Democratic opponent and returned to the White House.
Musk later joined the Trump administration as a leading figure behind the Department of Government Efficiency, better known as DOGE, an aggressive government-cutting initiative aimed at reducing federal spending and bureaucracy.
Critics accused DOGE of moving too quickly while targeting government jobs and programs, including foreign aid operations tied to USAID.
The documentary also raises questions about the government information Musk and his DOGE team were reportedly able to access during that period.
Combined with the enormous amount of user data connected to X and Musk’s sprawling technology empire, his critics argue the billionaire now possesses an extraordinary level of political and technological influence.
But exactly what Musk has done — or intends to do — with any of that information remains unclear.
The allegations arrive as Musk appears to be moving closer to Trump’s political movement again following a spectacular public falling-out between the two men after Musk left DOGE.
Their feud included public insults and attacks before tensions appeared to cool.
St. Clair has also undergone her own political transformation.
Once associated with conservative causes, she has more recently criticized the political right while battling Musk in a bitter custody dispute.
During an appearance on The Daily Beast Podcast last month, St. Clair described the broader right-wing movement as a “cult” and accused it of treating women poorly.
St. Clair announced in 2025 that she had a child with Musk.
Musk, who has fathered at least 14 children with four women, publicly questioned whether St. Clair’s son Romulus was his after she said the child had been born in September 2024.
Their dispute became even more heated after St. Clair publicly expressed support for Musk’s transgender daughter, Vivian Wilson.
Musk responded by saying he would seek full custody, writing that St. Clair’s comments suggested she could potentially transition their young son.
Now the personal battle between Musk and St. Clair is spilling into an even bigger arena — the presidential election that returned Trump to power.
Whether the documentary ultimately provides anything beyond provocative messages and speculation remains to be seen.
But with Musk again becoming a major player in conservative politics, the extraordinary allegations are certain to reignite questions about just how much power America’s most politically influential billionaire really holds.
