Former first lady Jill Biden says she would stand behind her son Hunter Biden if he ever decided to make the ultimate political leap — a run for the White House.

And when she was asked what advice she would give him, her answer was surprisingly simple.

“Run.”

Jill, 75, made the eyebrow-raising comment during an upcoming episode of The Jamie Kern Lima Show set to be released Thursday, Aug. 20.

Podcast host Jamie Kern Lima asked what Jill — and former President Joe Biden — would tell Hunter if the 56-year-old ever expressed interest in following his father into presidential politics.

“You know, I do have a funny answer for that,” Jill said with a laugh. “I would say, ‘Run.’ But then you take that how you want to.”

While Jill appeared to be having some fun with the question, she quickly made clear that her larger point was about supporting her family no matter what direction they choose.

“Hunter’s gotta find his own path,” she said.

Whatever Hunter, her children or grandchildren ultimately decide to do, Jill said she and Joe intend to stand behind them.

“We will support them 100%,” she said.

Jill compared that attitude to the way she supported Joe during the years when he wrestled with whether to seek the presidency.

When the possibility of running for the White House seemed overwhelming, Jill said she told him, “I believe in you and I will support you.”

Now, she says, she feels the same way about the next generation of Bidens.

The remarks are likely to raise eyebrows because Hunter has spent years at the center of some of the most bruising controversies surrounding the Biden family.

But Jill has recently struck an optimistic tone about her son, praising his growing online presence and his willingness to speak candidly about addiction and recovery.

During the first half of her two-part interview with Lima, which aired Monday, Aug. 17, Jill said she and Joe were “so proud” of Hunter.

“He can be so honest and say things other people won’t say, and feel comfortable with it because he’s been through it,” she said.

Jill went even further, declaring that “now is Hunter’s time to shine.”

Hunter has increasingly spoken publicly about his years of addiction, including his past use of crack cocaine and his path toward sobriety.

Jill said his willingness to talk openly about those experiences could help other families struggling with addiction — a subject that for decades was often kept behind closed doors.

“For so long it was taboo,” she said. “You didn’t talk about it.”

For Jill, Hunter’s darkest years were not merely political controversies. They were deeply painful family crises that eventually played out in court and across national television.

She recalled sitting through Hunter’s criminal proceedings as portions of his memoir were played in court, forcing the family to hear his struggles described in his own words.

“It was so heartbreaking,” she said.

Hunter himself has recently adopted an unusually candid tone when discussing that period of his life.

In a June 29 video, he made the startling declaration that he was “grateful” for having once been addicted to crack cocaine, explaining that he did not mean the statement sarcastically.

Hunter’s addiction became a major issue during his 2024 federal criminal cases, when intensely personal details about his drug use and private life were aired publicly.

He was convicted on federal gun charges and separately pleaded guilty in his federal tax case.

Then, in December 2024, shortly before leaving office, President Biden issued his son a sweeping federal pardon — reversing his earlier insistence that he would not intervene.

The move triggered fierce criticism from Republicans and even some Democrats, while Biden argued that Hunter had been unfairly singled out because he was the president’s son.

Now, with the Bidens out of the White House and Hunter carving out a more public role of his own, Jill appears eager to turn the page on years of scandal.

Whether Hunter Biden actually has political ambitions remains another matter entirely.

But if he ever does decide to enter the arena his father occupied for more than half a century, he already knows where his mother stands.

She says she’ll be in his corner.

    1. Certainly the poster boy for Democrats… but may not appeal to other voters… Independents, GOP, MAGA, Normal People…
