NBC News star Steve Kornacki found himself in a live-TV emergency that had absolutely nothing to do with election results.

The longtime political correspondent, famous for racing around his election maps and crunching numbers in real time, stunned viewers when he suddenly admitted he desperately needed a bathroom break in the middle of live coverage.

Kornacki, 46, tried to keep things moving while awkwardly explaining his predicament on air.

“Here’s the thing. I have to… you know what I’m saying?” he told his colleagues.

He then promised he wouldn’t be gone long.

“Well, I don’t want anybody to go anywhere. I will run, it’ll take two minutes,” Kornacki said. “It’s just… I know you all understand.”

But just as it looked like he was finally going to make his escape, breaking election news stopped him in his tracks.

“Something just came in!” Kornacki suddenly announced.

The new numbers showed politician Francesca Hong taking the lead in Dane County, Wisconsin, during the Democratic gubernatorial primary — apparently important enough for Kornacki to temporarily forget about his bathroom crisis.

“Oh my God, I almost went to the bathroom for that, okay,” he joked as he jumped right back into analyzing the results.

NBC later shared the hilarious moment online, where viewers couldn’t get enough of Kornacki’s dedication to the election map.

“Steve is a national treasure,” one fan wrote.

“The passion he has for maps and tracking elections is second to none,” the viewer added.

Another person joked that NBC probably didn’t need to immortalize the embarrassing moment, writing, “NBC, y’all did not have to post this,” alongside laughing emojis.

Other fans said moments like this are exactly why Kornacki has become such a familiar face during election coverage.

“He’s the reason I watch them on election night,” one viewer wrote. “If he wasn’t there I probably wouldn’t watch!”

Kornacki has served as NBC News’ national political correspondent since 2017 and has developed a loyal following for his rapid-fire election analysis, trademark khakis and seemingly endless enthusiasm for county-by-county vote totals.

And apparently, not even nature calling can pull him away when fresh election numbers hit the screen.
