CNN Reveals Stunning Video of Trump Secretly Escaping Air Force One

President Donald Trump was secretly whisked away from Air Force One inside an airport catering truck as part of an extraordinary security operation designed to hide his location amid fears of an Iranian assassination threat.

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins aired footage Monday night showing how the elaborate deception unfolded during Trump’s July 8 departure from Turkey — revealing that reporters and even some White House personnel apparently had no idea the president had quietly switched planes.

Trump, 80, had been in Ankara for a NATO summit when cameras captured him boarding Air Force One at approximately 8:24 p.m. local time.

But just minutes later, according to reporting from The Washington Post discussed by Collins, Trump and several aides secretly exited the aircraft and climbed aboard an elevated catering truck positioned alongside the plane and largely hidden from the press.

At roughly 8:30 p.m., the truck pulled away.

Instead of carrying meals, it was reportedly carrying the president of the United States.

Trump was then transported to a smaller Air Force C-32A military aircraft, which flew him out of Turkey while the plane reporters believed was carrying the president continued on without him.

The extraordinary maneuver effectively turned Air Force One into a decoy.

“The maneuver meant that the president’s actual location was concealed from the American public and many senior U.S. officials for hours,” Collins said while describing The Post’s reporting.

The secretive operation reportedly came amid concerns about a possible Iranian assassination threat against Trump, just one day after the United States renewed military strikes against Iran.

Iranian threats against Trump and other former U.S. officials have been a serious security concern for years. Previous reporting has described Iranian plots targeting former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and other officials, while Trump’s security operation was dramatically tightened during the 2024 presidential campaign.

Still, the extraordinary lengths taken during the Turkey trip — and the fact that reporters and some staffers aboard the decoy aircraft apparently remained unaware of what was happening — are raising new questions about transparency and the safety of those left behind.

Collins showed video of Trump publicly boarding Air Force One before the catering truck appeared beside the aircraft.

The truck was then seen driving away while members of the traveling press and others continued boarding the plane they believed Trump was aboard.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly boarded the smaller C-32A separately using exterior stairs, helping make it appear as though he was the highest-ranking official aboard that aircraft.

Washington Post national security reporter Dan Lamothe told Collins that the operation was so unusual that even he initially struggled to believe what sources were describing.

The biggest mystery may be what happened next.

After both aircraft arrived in Britain, it remains unclear exactly how Trump was transferred back onto Air Force One without the reporters traveling aboard realizing he had never flown with them in the first place.

Video later showed Trump walking down the stairs of the aircraft shortly before 11 p.m., giving the appearance that he had just arrived aboard the same plane as the press corps.

He then greeted U.S. service members before boarding the newer Boeing 747-8 that had been gifted by Qatar for his flight back to Washington.

The revelation also casts a striking new light on comments Trump made to reporters afterward.

Journalists had been ordered to close their window shades during the original flight — an unusual instruction that prompted questions about whether there had been a specific security threat.

Trump told reporters he had not been asked to close his own shade.

There was apparently a simple explanation: He had never been on their plane.

When asked at the time whether Iran presented a threat, Trump acknowledged that he regularly faced danger and joked to the journalists traveling with him that if something happened to him, they could be in danger as well.

But those reporters now know they were actually flying aboard a decoy aircraft without the president.

That detail has prompted uncomfortable questions about whether the journalists, White House employees and military personnel left aboard were themselves placed at additional risk.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, a Connecticut Democrat, told CNN that the Secret Service deserved credit for protecting the president but questioned what precautions had been taken for everyone else aboard the apparent decoy.

Former Obama adviser David Axelrod also described the operation as highly unusual, particularly because the deception apparently continued long after Trump was safely out of danger.

Even conservative CNN commentator and former Mitch McConnell adviser Scott Jennings agreed that those aboard the plane deserved an explanation if officials believed there was a serious enough threat to remove Trump from it.

Lamothe said The Washington Post began investigating after sources believed there was a significant gap in the public understanding of what had happened.

“It’s unclear at the moment what exactly triggered them to take these extreme measures,” he told Collins.

For nearly a month, the public believed Trump had traveled aboard Air Force One alongside the White House press corps.

Instead, one of the most closely protected men in the world had slipped out of sight inside a vehicle normally used to deliver airline meals — while an entirely different plane carried on as his decoy.
