Justin Trudeau only needed two seconds to send MAGA into a full-blown spiral.
The former Canadian prime minister made a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance in Katy Perry’s TikTok teaser for her latest single, “Watch It Burn,” and conservatives online immediately acted like they had witnessed a national emergency.
Perry, 41, released the bouncy new track on June 25 and later posted a playful video of herself, Trudeau, and several others hopping around to the beat.
“Ancient texts say that if you hop to this song you will get 1,000 years of good luck,” Perry captioned the video.
Trudeau, 54, appears for only a couple of seconds, dancing behind Perry and looking very much like a man enjoying life outside the political pressure cooker. But for some MAGA commentators, that tiny cameo was apparently enough to ruin the day.
A self-described “America First” account, @OneBadDude_, called the couple “a pair of idiots” in a video posted on X.
Conservative commentator Ian Miles Cheong took aim at both Perry and Trudeau, writing, “Katy Perry is 41 years old. She’s dressed like a child while Justin Trudeau jumps around with her like a child with ADHD.”
Another conservative account, @JebraFaushay, dismissed the couple as “pure cringe.”
The conservative outlet Real America’s Voice also jumped in, posting a video mocking Trudeau’s dance moves with the caption, “Does this work? Fmr. Canadian PM Justin Trudeau seems to be having his career in REVERSE.”
But the harshest reaction came from prominent MAGA commentator Joey Mannarino, who lashed out at Trudeau with an anti-gay insult, calling the former prime minister “a raging homosexual.”
For Trudeau’s critics, the dance clip seemed to confirm what has become a strange obsession: his relationship with Perry. Since the two went public, Trump supporters and right-wing personalities have repeatedly fixated on the romance, treating it less like celebrity gossip and more like a political grievance.
Trudeau and Perry launched their relationship on social media in December 2025 after being linked for months. Perry has since called Trudeau “the love of my life,” and the two have become an unexpected pop-culture power couple.
On the left, the conservative backlash was quickly mocked as another example of MAGA outrage looking for a target.
Political commentator and Trump critic Brian Krassenstein wrote on X, “MAGA Americans are melting down because Justin Trudeau decided to be in his girlfriend Katy Perry’s music video. They just don’t understand the concept of supporting the ones they love.”
Another X user summed up the reaction more bluntly, writing, “The way Trudeau living rent-free in their heads just for being a supportive boyfriend is wild. They really cant handle seeing him happy and stress-free while they busy being triggered over a 2-second cameo.”
Over on TikTok, the reaction was much warmer. Fans appeared delighted to see Trudeau looking carefree and smitten as he bounced along to Perry’s song.
“I love seeing Trudaddy jumping around, looking all lovestruck at Katy,” one fan wrote.
“The way he looks at her,” another commented alongside a screenshot of the pair.
“I love seeing our old prime minister having the time of his life,” another follower added.
One viewer joked that they had “spotted a very happy former Prime Minister of Canada” bouncing behind Perry, while another simply wrote, “He deserves to be happy.”
For all the right-wing outrage, the video itself is hardly scandalous. It is a brief, goofy dance clip from a pop star’s social media account. But in the MAGA ecosystem, even a happy Justin Trudeau cameo can apparently become culture-war fuel.
And judging by the reaction, Trudeau may be out of office — but he is clearly still taking up plenty of space in conservative heads.
