A funeral for a man who was fatally shot after a party ended in violence was rocked by more gunfire Friday when another person was shot outside a Houston church.

Houston police rushed to St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church at 8301 Brandon Street in southeast Houston at about noon following reports of a shooting.

Investigators said an argument broke out in the church parking lot while mourners were attending the funeral. At some point during the confrontation, shots were fired and one person was struck.

The wounded victim was taken away from the scene in a private vehicle before officers arrived, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said the victim’s condition remains unknown. Investigators had also not located the injured person as of Friday afternoon.

No suspects have been identified, and authorities have not released a description of the person believed to have opened fire.

Officers recovered shell casings in the parking lot and were reviewing surveillance footage from the church in hopes of determining exactly what happened and identifying those involved.

Witnesses told ABC13 that the funeral was being held for Darius Phillips, who was recently shot and killed after a fight at a party escalated into gunfire in west Harris County.

The shooting remains under investigation, and police said additional details could be released as detectives continue gathering evidence.
