Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson have reportedly made it official — but not in the splashy island ceremony everyone was expecting.
The president’s eldest son and his Florida socialite fiancée secretly tied the knot in West Palm Beach just days before their planned Bahamas wedding celebration, according to a marriage certificate reported by the Daily Mail.
The quiet ceremony allegedly took place Thursday, May 21, at the home of Anderson’s sister, Kristina McPherson. Anderson’s brother-in-law, Brad McPherson, is believed to have officiated the low-key Florida wedding.
But while the couple may already be legally married, the Trump family drama is far from over.
The newlyweds are still expected to hold a private and lavish celebration in the Bahamas over the weekend, with a small guest list said to include some family members, including Don Jr.’s sister Ivanka Trump.
One major name, however, is apparently missing from the guest list in practice: President Donald Trump.
Trump made it clear this week that he would not be attending his son’s Caribbean wedding celebration, citing escalating tensions overseas and his need to remain in Washington.
“He’d like me to go,” Trump told reporters Thursday. “But it’s going to be just a small, little private affair. I’m gonna try and make it.”
Then came the explanation that immediately lit up critics.
“I said, ‘You know this is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things,’” Trump said. “That’s one I can’t win on. If I do attend, I get killed. If I don’t attend, I get killed — by the fake news, of course.”
The comment quickly drew backlash, especially from critics who argued the president has still found time for leisure while claiming national security concerns were keeping him from his son’s wedding.
One critic blasted him online, saying he had been “golfing every weekend” during the Iran conflict but suddenly could not make time for Don Jr.’s wedding.
By Friday, Trump removed any lingering doubt.
In a Truth Social post, the president said he would remain at the White House rather than fly to the Bahamas for the celebration.
“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon-to-be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” Trump wrote.
“I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time. Congratulations to Don and Bettina.”
The public explanation may have been wrapped in patriotism, but the optics are brutal.
Don Jr., one of Trump’s most loyal political attack dogs and a central figure in the MAGA movement, is reportedly celebrating one of the biggest personal milestones of his life without his father there. For a family that has built an entire political brand around loyalty, image, and public displays of strength, the absence is already raising eyebrows.
Sources previously claimed the couple considered delaying the wedding until the fall to avoid blowback over celebrating during the Iran crisis. But they reportedly decided to move ahead anyway.
“I think this is something they just want to get through, get it done,” one insider said. “So they can get on with their lives, move on to the next chapters for all the things they want to achieve.”
The wedding also comes after earlier speculation that Don Jr. and Anderson could hold a ceremony at the White House, a move that would have instantly transformed the nuptials into a political spectacle.
One source claimed such a setting could have helped position the couple for future political ambitions, including speculation about whether Don Jr. could eventually seek higher office himself.
But any White House wedding fantasy appears to have collapsed along with delays surrounding Trump’s controversial ballroom project.
The East Wing was torn down in October 2025 to begin construction on the ballroom, but the project hit a legal roadblock when a federal judge temporarily paused construction on March 31.
So instead of a grand White House moment, Don Jr. and Anderson reportedly opted for a secret Florida ceremony followed by a private island celebration — minus the president.
For now, the Trump family is trying to frame the absence as a matter of duty. But the timing, secrecy, and father-son distance are already fueling exactly the kind of headlines Trump said he wanted to avoid.
