Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Zahara appears to have made another very public statement about where she stands in her famous family’s long-running drama.
The 21-year-old college graduate reportedly dropped Pitt from her name while receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Spelman College over the weekend, choosing to go by Zahara Marley Jolie instead.
It was a major milestone for Zahara, but it also sparked fresh attention because it was not the first time she has publicly distanced herself from her Oscar-winning father’s last name.
Zahara previously left out Pitt’s name during her induction into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in 2023. She also appeared to do the same at a brunch event earlier this year.
The move comes as Pitt’s relationship with several of his children has remained under a microscope following his bitter split from Jolie.
The former Hollywood power couple, once known around the world as “Brangelina,” share six children: Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 19, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 17.
Jolie and Pitt split in 2016 after just two years of marriage, setting off one of the longest and most combative celebrity divorce battles in recent memory. Their divorce was finalized in 2024 after years of fighting over custody, finances, and property.
During the ugly legal war, Jolie accused Pitt of assaulting her and two of their children during a now-infamous private plane incident. Pitt has denied abuse allegations, but the claims cast a long shadow over the family’s already fractured public image.
Zahara has made no secret of her deep love for her mother. She has previously described Jolie as “the most selfless, loving, and understanding woman who I get to call my mom.”
And she is not the only Jolie-Pitt child who has stepped away from the Pitt name.
Maddox, Vivienne, and Shiloh have also reportedly dropped their father’s last name in different ways. Shiloh went even further, legally changing her name after turning 18.
For years, Pitt was one half of Hollywood’s most glamorous couple. But nearly a decade after his split from Jolie, the family fallout still appears to be playing out in public.
Now, Zahara’s graduation moment has reignited the question fans have been asking for years: can Pitt ever repair the damage with his children, or has that chapter already closed?
