Donald Trump reportedly keeps a sealed letter for Vice President JD Vance tucked inside the historic Resolute Desk — and according to a top White House official, it’s only meant to be opened if the unthinkable happens.
The bombshell revelation came from White House counterterrorism official Sebastian Gorka during a podcast interview as Trump traveled through China under intense security.
“There is a letter in the drawer in the Resolute Desk that is addressed to the vice president should something happen to him,” Gorka said, without revealing what the message contains.
The stunning disclosure has ignited fresh questions about presidential safety, succession plans, and the growing threats surrounding Trump as he heads toward his 80th birthday.
The president’s overseas trip comes after multiple alleged assassination plots targeting him over the last two years — including the shocking July 2024 rally shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was wounded in the ear and one supporter was killed.
Authorities have also described separate incidents in Florida and Washington, D.C., as disrupted assassination plots involving the president.
Now, with Trump visiting China for high-stakes meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, concerns over his safety have exploded once again.
During the podcast, interviewer Miranda Devine openly questioned whether China could view Trump as a major obstacle to its global ambitions.
“He alone stands between them and world domination,” Devine said while asking Gorka whether administration officials feared for Trump’s safety overseas.
Gorka dismissed the concern, insisting Trump remained “very safe” during the visit and saying he had “no fear at all” about China attempting anything against the president.
Still, the existence of the secret letter immediately fueled speculation online over what Trump may have written to Vance in the event of his death or assassination.
The revelation also renewed attention on the 25th Amendment and the constitutional process that would instantly place Vice President JD Vance into power if a president dies in office.
Only four vice presidents in American history have ascended to the presidency following assassinations: Andrew Johnson after Abraham Lincoln, Chester Arthur after James Garfield, Theodore Roosevelt after William McKinley, and Lyndon B. Johnson after John F. Kennedy.
Trump’s health and age have also remained major political talking points in recent years, especially after the heated 2024 election cycle, when concerns over aging leadership dominated Washington headlines.
Critics have repeatedly questioned whether America’s oldest political leaders should continue serving in office, while Trump allies insist the president remains energetic and in strong health despite the mounting threats against him.
As speculation swirls around the mysterious letter to Vance, the White House has not released additional details about its contents — or whether similar emergency documents exist elsewhere inside the West Wing.

Ah Jonathon, this isn’t a dating site….
Standard Procedure for a President to leave such a letter…
As I recall, Obummer and Jokementia even left such letters for Trump each time…
