President Donald Trump reportedly left behind a sealed letter for Vice President JD Vance with instructions to follow if anything happens to him during his high-stakes trip to China — a stunning revelation that comes as tensions with Iran, China and North Korea continue to spiral.
According to claims made by White House counterterrorism official Sebastian Gorka during an appearance on commentator Miranda Devine’s podcast, Trump prepared written directions for Vance in the event he is attacked or assassinated while overseas.
“There is a letter in the drawer in the Resolute Desk that is addressed to the vice president, should something happen to him,” Gorka allegedly said, while refusing to elaborate further on what security plans are in place.
The bombshell report surfaced just as Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for a highly anticipated summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The meeting comes against the backdrop of mounting global instability and fears that the United States could be dragged deeper into conflict following Trump’s aggressive military actions against Iran.
The president has become an especially controversial figure on the world stage after recent missile strikes that reportedly killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several top Iranian officials — a move that dramatically escalated tensions in the Middle East and sparked warnings of retaliation.
During the podcast discussion, Devine described Trump as the lone obstacle standing in the way of China’s global ambitions.
“He alone stands between China and world domination,” she said, adding that America’s enemies have “every reason in the world” to target him.
Trump himself has repeatedly hinted that he already has retaliation plans in place if he were ever assassinated.
Earlier this year, the president warned that any country responsible for killing him would face total destruction.
“If they did that, they would be obliterated,” Trump said during remarks in February 2025. “That would be the end. There won’t be anything left.”
In another interview, he doubled down on the threat, saying he had already issued “very firm instructions” for a devastating military response if he were harmed.
Meanwhile, Iran’s leadership has fired back with warnings of its own.
After the death of Khamenei, his son Mojtaba Khamenei reportedly assumed a more powerful leadership role, while Iranian official Ali Larijani issued a direct warning aimed at Trump.
“Iran is not afraid of your empty threats,” Larijani said. “Take care of yourself, not to be eliminated.”
The growing fears surrounding political assassinations are not limited to Iran.
As tensions continue rising worldwide, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un has reportedly strengthened his country’s nuclear response policy, including automatic retaliation measures if he is ever assassinated.
Security analysts say recent military operations in Iran have sent shockwaves through authoritarian governments around the world, with many leaders now openly preparing for worst-case scenarios.
And with Trump now overseas in one of the world’s most politically sensitive regions, the revelation of a secret letter waiting inside the Oval Office is only adding more fuel to the fire.
