A family’s peaceful Mother’s Day trip through Arizona turned into a real-life nightmare when a small plane suddenly dropped out of the sky and nearly crushed their truck in the middle of the highway.

The terrifying moment happened Sunday afternoon on US 80 near Superior, Arizona, and the entire ordeal was caught on dashboard camera footage that looks straight out of a Hollywood disaster movie.

Kristal Ewing, her husband and their two children were driving back to Mesa after a Mother’s Day hike when they spotted a low-flying orange-and-white Cessna C150 hovering dangerously close to the roadway.

At first, the family thought it was just unusual.

“Woah, look you guys, look, look,” Ewing can be heard telling her children in the video as the tiny aircraft swooped lower and lower over traffic.

But seconds later, panic set in.

“Oh my God, why is he so low?” Ewing gasped as the plane appeared to head directly toward their truck.

Then came the heart-stopping moment.

As the aircraft rapidly descended onto the highway, Ewing’s husband jerked the wheel and swerved onto the median just in time to avoid being flattened. The plane’s wing passed frighteningly close over the family vehicle during the emergency landing.

“Holy—” Ewing wheezed as the Cessna slammed onto the roadway behind them.

The plane continued skidding down the empty stretch of highway before smashing into a road sign and nearly flipping onto its nose before finally stopping in the median.

Miraculously, nobody was hurt — including the pilot.

Even more unbelievable, the family’s truck escaped with only a tiny scuff mark caused by the plane’s propeller.

“It’s still kind of surreal when I see the footage,” Ewing later told AZFamily. “It looks like it happened to someone else or maybe it was faked, but I was there. It happened.”

She admitted the close call still leaves her shaken.

“It’s still kind of shocking when I think about it and how close it really got,” she said. “This could have ended so much worse.”

According to the plane’s owner, who was not on board at the time, the aircraft had been loaned to a friend for a recreational flight. He said the Cessna reportedly stalled shortly after taking off from Superior Municipal Airport, forcing the pilot to attempt the desperate emergency landing on the highway.

The Federal Aviation Administration is now investigating exactly what went wrong.
