A former Chick-fil-A worker in Texas is accused of pulling off a bizarre and expensive scheme centered on one of the chain’s most beloved side dishes: mac and cheese.

Authorities say 23-year-old Keyshun Jones, a former employee at a Chick-fil-A in Grapevine, allegedly stole more than $80,000 from the restaurant by ringing up hundreds of fake mac and cheese orders and sending the refunds straight to his own credit cards. Now, after months of allegedly dodging police, he is behind bars facing serious charges.

According to the Grapevine Police Department, detectives launched an investigation in November 2025 after the local restaurant’s owner reported a major theft. Police said surveillance footage showed Jones, who had reportedly been fired about a month earlier, back behind the counter without authorization.

Investigators allege the video captured Jones using the register to process around 800 orders of mac and cheese trays. But instead of those transactions leading to actual sales, police say the money was refunded to Jones’ personal credit cards. The total alleged loss came to just over $80,000.

The case quickly turned into more than just a simple theft investigation. Jones was eventually arrested on April 17 and charged with property theft, money laundering, and evading arrest. Police say he avoided capture for months before officers were finally able to take him into custody.

As of April 30, jail records from Tarrant County showed Jones remained in custody. His bond was set at $110,000.

Chick-fil-A has not commented in detail on the allegations, pointing questions to local law enforcement because the case is still active. USA TODAY also reported that Jones’ defense attorney was contacted for comment.

The strange case has drawn attention not only because of the large dollar amount, but because of the unusual method police say was used to carry it out. What started as a popular comfort-food side dish is now at the center of a criminal case that has left plenty of people stunned.
