The nightmare isn’t over—and now, there’s a chilling new development.

Savannah Guthrie has delivered a heartbreaking and explosive update in the ongoing kidnapping of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, revealing that investigators may have been communicating with the real abductors in the earliest days of the case.

In her first televised appearance since her mother vanished on January 31, Guthrie spoke candidly in an emotional sit-down, admitting she believes the first two ransom notes sent to the family were likely authentic.

“I believe the two notes that we received that we responded to, I tend to believe those are real,” she said, her voice heavy with emotion.

Those early messages, including one sent to TMZ just days after the disappearance, contained disturbing details only someone inside the home would know—like what Nancy was wearing and specific damage left behind during the abduction. The sender demanded millions in Bitcoin, sending shockwaves through the family and investigators alike.

But what followed only deepened the mystery.

Guthrie now suspects later ransom notes may have been the work of copycats trying to exploit the high-profile case. Authorities have yet to confirm whether any of the messages are legitimate, and no suspects have been publicly identified.

As the case drags into its second month, the emotional toll is becoming unbearable.

“Someone needs to do the right thing. We are in agony. It is unbearable,” Guthrie said, pleading for answers.

Behind the scenes, investigators are zeroing in on key moments that could crack the case wide open.

One date in particular—January 11—has become a focal point. A neighbor reported seeing a suspicious man lurking near Nancy’s home that night, prompting the FBI to request doorbell footage from surrounding homes. Whether that sighting is directly tied to the kidnapping remains unclear, but authorities believe it could be a critical lead.

Meanwhile, chilling images captured by a doorbell camera—showing a potential suspect—have only heightened fears and urgency.

Guthrie admitted she’s been haunted by one painful possibility: that her mother may have been targeted because of her.

“I don’t know… maybe someone thought they could make a quick buck,” she said. “But we don’t know. And that’s what’s so hard… to think that I brought this to her doorstep.”

The search continues across Tucson, with investigators saying they are getting closer—but not close enough.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos recently revealed officials are “definitely closer” and have “a lot of intel to work with,” offering a glimmer of hope in an otherwise devastating ordeal.

Still, time is ticking.

The Guthrie family has put up a staggering $1 million reward for Nancy’s safe return, while the FBI is offering an additional $50,000 for information that leads to answers.

For now, one family remains trapped in a living nightmare—waiting, hoping, and begging for someone, somewhere, to come forward.
