London diners witnessed an unexpected spectacle last week after British broadcaster Piers Morgan suffered a violent fall that left him with a fractured femur and a brand-new hip. The 60-year-old TV personality, long known on both sides of the Atlantic for his loud opinions and louder feuds, is now recovering in a London hospital.
Morgan posted a photo from his hospital bed on Sunday. Tubes, monitors, and a bruised expression told most of the story. His caption told the rest.
“I tripped on a small step,” Morgan wrote. “Fractured my femur. Hurt so badly I needed a new hip. New Year off to a cracking start. I blame Donald Trump.”
The jab came as no surprise. Morgan’s relationship with Trump has swung from sycophantic praise to fiery confrontations. And now, with Trump back in the White House in 2026, Morgan appears to be leaning fully into the bit.
A source close to Morgan joked that the broadcaster “never misses an opportunity for drama,” but added that the fall was no stunt. “He was in real pain. The injury was serious. He’s lucky it wasn’t worse.”
Hospital staff confirmed Morgan will be on crutches for at least six weeks. “He’s recovering well,” a nurse said anonymously. “But he’s definitely keeping us entertained.”
The restaurant where the accident occurred declined to comment, though one patron told reporters that the step Morgan tripped over was “barely there” and that “anyone could’ve missed it.”
British morning hosts also weighed in. On air, they teased Morgan about possibly being drunk during the fall. Morgan quickly shot back online: “To clarify, ZERO alcohol was involved,” adding a laughing emoji.
Morgan has made a career out of toeing the line between entertainment and outrage. He famously won the celebrity edition of Trump’s The Apprentice years ago, launching a complicated and very public friendship-turned-feud with the now-returning president. Their 2022 clash during a tense televised interview became a viral moment, with Morgan repeatedly challenging Trump on election integrity, January 6, and his refusal to concede in 2020.
Political analyst Dana Merritt says Morgan’s latest Trump swipe was predictable. “Piers has always kept one eye on the headlines,” she said. “Trump being back in power gives him an easy target and a familiar foil. It’s practically a financial asset for him.”
Morgan’s fans have flooded his social media with recovery wishes, while his critics offered a different kind of sympathy. One commenter wrote, “He fell on a step and still blamed Trump. Truly iconic.”
Morgan is expected to return to broadcasting once he can walk unaided. And if his hospital selfie was any indication, he’s already rehearsing his grand comeback line.
“Hip replacement,” he wrote. “Same attitude.”
