Massive War Breaking Out at Fox News Behind-the-Scenes

Fox News is imploding from within — and this time, the fire is coming from inside the house.

Leaked text messages from primetime star Jesse Watters have exposed a bitter behind-the-scenes feud at the conservative network, painting a picture of chaos, resentment, and deep internal fractures just months into President Trump’s return to the White House.

According to newly unsealed court documents from Smartmatic’s ongoing $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit, Watters privately trashed several top executives — calling them “rudderless” and “incompetent” — while mocking his network’s leadership for caving to political pressure.

In messages to Fox Executive Vice President Megan Albano, Watters, 47, took aim at his bosses, singling out Fox News President Jay Wallace as “rudderless” and referring to top programming chiefs Meade Cooper and Kimberly Rosenberg as “incompetent.”

“They’ve lost the plot. We’re supposed to be fearless — not flailing,” Watters allegedly wrote in one of the messages. “It’s like watching the Titanic sink, but we’re all still smiling on camera.”

Sources close to the network told The Daily Ledger that Watters’ private comments reflect growing unrest among on-air talent, many of whom feel Fox’s executives are struggling to balance loyalty to Trump with journalistic credibility amid renewed attacks from the White House.

“Fox is terrified of losing Trump’s base again,” said one former senior producer. “It’s déjà vu from 2020 — except this time, they’re breaking apart from the inside.”

The explosive texts surfaced as part of Smartmatic’s defamation case, a sequel to the Dominion lawsuit that already cost Fox $787 million in 2023. The company alleges Fox personalities knowingly promoted false claims about rigged voting machines following Trump’s 2020 defeat — claims that resurfaced during Trump’s 2025 reelection campaign.

The newly released evidence also includes Tucker Carlson’s private remarks, where the ousted host called Trump a “total piece of s—” just days after the 2020 election. “We can’t control him,” Carlson wrote. “Got to do the responsible thing regardless of how he behaves.”

For a network that once prided itself on loyalty to Trump, the contradictions between public praise and private contempt have reignited a storm of distrust among the MAGA faithful.

Meanwhile, tensions between Fox’s biggest personalities have spilled onto the airwaves. Comedian-turned-commentator Greg Gutfeld recently mocked Watters on-air, calling him “an a——” with “the most punchable face.”

“I used to hate on him back in the O’Reilly days,” Gutfeld joked during a Gutfeld! broadcast. “Then I ended up working with him — and he’s still an a——. But I love that a——.”

The clip went viral on X (formerly Twitter), fueling rumors of a full-blown rivalry between the two co-hosts of The Five.

“It’s no secret Jesse’s been acting like he’s the new king of Fox,” one network insider told The Daily Ledger. “But Gutfeld still thinks he’s the funniest guy in the building — and their egos just can’t fit on the same set.”

With President Trump back in the Oval Office and conservative media once again under scrutiny, Fox’s internal war couldn’t come at a worse time. Ratings have slipped as rival right-wing platforms like Newsmax and TruthTV chip away at Fox’s core audience.

“Fox News has become a symbol of what happens when propaganda eats itself,” said Columbia journalism professor Alicia Park, who studies media polarization. “It’s cannibalizing its own credibility in the age of Trump 2.0.”

Smartmatic’s trial is expected to begin early next year — and if these leaks are any indication, Fox’s biggest battle may not be in the courtroom, but in its own newsroom.
