Veteran Actor Michael DeLano, Known for Ocean’s Eleven and Rhoda, Dies at 84

Hollywood is mourning the loss of Michael DeLano — the suave character actor who appeared in Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve, and dozens of TV classics — after his death at age 84.

His wife of 28 years, Jean DeLano, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that he suffered a fatal heart attack on October 20 at a Las Vegas hospital. He is survived by his daughter, Bree, and three grandchildren: Michael, Lincoln, and Jaxon.

Before his breakout acting career, DeLano had a passion for music. In 1960, he signed with Swan Records under the stage name Key Larson, releasing the singles “A Web of Lies” and “A Little Lovin’ Goes a Long, Long Way.” Later, after spotting a neon hotel sign that read “DeLano,” he adopted the name as his own — a move that would stick with him throughout Hollywood.

Fans might remember him best as Johnny Venture, the flirtatious love interest on the hit 1970s sitcom Rhoda, or as firefighter Sonny Caputo in the drama Firehouse.

In his own words, DeLano once said, “Art is everything, and everything is art” — a sentiment that perfectly captured his creative spirit and lifelong devotion to performance.

A true entertainer, DeLano’s legacy continues to light up both the big screen and the hearts of those who loved him.
