The Home Depot controversy is heating up just as holiday shopping season begins.
Activist group We Ain’t Buying It has called for a nationwide boycott of the home improvement giant, accusing the company of “colluding with ICE to kidnap our neighbors.”

Home Depot flatly denies it.

“We aren’t coordinating with ICE or Border Patrol,” a spokesperson told Newsweek. “We aren’t notified that immigration enforcement activities are going to happen, and we aren’t involved in the operations.”

Still, the backlash is spreading across social media. And it’s hitting during one of the most lucrative retail weekends of the year.

Why Protesters Are Targeting Big Retailers

From November 27 through December 1, We Ain’t Buying It is urging shoppers to boycott three retail giants — Home Depot, Target, and Amazon — over what it calls complicity in the Trump administration’s “biased attacks on DEI” and “anti-immigrant enforcement.”

“This action is taking direct aim at Target, for caving to this administration’s biased attacks on DEI; Home Depot, for allowing and colluding with ICE; and Amazon, for funding this administration to secure their own corporate tax cuts,” the group said in a post.

The group describes itself as an “economic action and solidarity campaign” that uses financial pressure to push corporations toward accountability.

Their message is clear: “We want consumers to realize the power is in OUR hands,” a We Ain’t Buying It spokesperson told Newsweek. “Enough is enough. We Ain’t Buying It!”

Trump’s Immigration Crackdown Rekindles Old Fears

Since President Donald Trump’s return to the White House, federal immigration raids have sharply increased.
Trump campaigned on deporting millions of undocumented immigrants — a promise his administration now appears to be making good on.

According to the Associated Press, Home Depot parking lots have long been informal gathering sites for day laborers — many of them immigrants, both documented and undocumented — seeking work. Earlier this year, White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller allegedly named Home Depot as a potential focus for ICE enforcement actions.

That connection — real or perceived — has made the retailer a flashpoint.

One immigrant advocate in California told The Los Angeles Times that “it’s terrifying to see ICE agents where people are just trying to get work. These are men and women supporting families, not criminals.”

Voices from Both Sides

Not everyone agrees with the boycott.

Christopher Webb, a social media user describing himself as a “Lifelong Dem,” posted to X: “These posters started popping up ahead of next week’s We Ain’t Buying It boycott. From Nov 27–Dec 1, folks are stepping back from Target, Home Depot, and Amazon. People are done being squeezed, so they’re using the leverage of their wallets.”

Others on Instagram urged people to redirect their money locally. “This Black Friday weekend, I’m not spending a dime at those big three,” wrote one influencer. “I’m supporting the people and places that actually strengthen our communities.”

But some conservatives see the boycott as performative outrage. One Florida commenter fired back: “They’re blaming Home Depot for following the law. How about boycotting illegal immigration instead?”

What Happens Next

Corporate boycotts have become a defining feature of the Trump era — from Disney and Bud Light to Target and now Home Depot.
Whether they actually hurt companies financially is less clear.

Retail analysts say that while boycotts may dent a brand’s image short term, they rarely cause major economic damage. “People still shop where it’s convenient,” said brand strategist Michelle Norwood. “It’s emotional for a week, then forgotten.”

Still, We Ain’t Buying It insists this one’s different.

“Immigrants come to this country to get a fair shot at life — not to be arrested in parking lots of Home Depot,” their spokesperson said.

As Black Friday approaches, the clash between consumer activism and corporate America is once again front and center — with Home Depot caught squarely in the middle.
